Me in the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness north of Steamboat Spring, CO. Taken last year on a 20th anniversary hike. Some friends and I had done this hike in 1986 with 50lb packs. They were doubtful that we could do it again until I talked them into UL gear. In the 20 year interval there had been a huge "blow-down" (13,000 acres- over 1 million trees) along one area followed by a fire. You can see the burned out trees behind me. It was surreal not to mention difficult hiking that section. Memorable hike.

Mine is taken in Summer in the Northern Japan Alps on my second failed summit attempt of Mt. Yarigatake.

My avatar was taken seconds before my first swim in a canoe. I bottom out in a souse hole and sideswipe a rock before I could ride the next wave at Wavy Rapids on the Upper Missinaibi River in Ontario.

Taken in June of 05,this is my then 8 1/2 year old son Liam on the Half Dome cables. What a tough little nut, he carried a 18lb ruck from the backpackers camp by Upper pines to the Brunnell cascade before I had to take it and give him a break. On our last day out we were camped a 1/4 mile from the HD/JMT trail.
At the bottom of the cables were two others, I asked "whos going up first, they said something about water or waiting for others, Liam chirped up and said "Come on dad, lets go".
33 miles hiked that trip. Hell yes I'm proud!

My hike to Kalalau Beach in Kauai, HI. It's actually my dad in the pic, I was taking all the photos and didn't have many good ones of myself.

solo trip up into mt. jefferson wilderness in oregon. i was taking a side trail that met up with the PCT. it was raining and as i was making approach it started to snow. i snapped a self-portrait.

i ended up having to abort the trip– another several hundred feet up the fog was too thick, the snow was sticking on the trail, and i had never been to the area before.

i plan on going back again this winter. hopefully it wont be snowing on the approach.

Meet Boris – the friendly western-grey kangaroo.

The pic was taken on a University of NSW biology field trip. It was at a place called Fowler's Gap 120km north of Broken Hill in far western NSW, – in the "outback" of Australia.

He is an orphan whose mum was hit by a car and he was raised by the University staff at the field station.

He liked to be patted. A lot! And kangaroo fur is soooo soft.

View of Exit Glacier from Marmot Meadows along the Harding Icefield Trail. The trail starts at the Kenai Fjords NP visitor center in the Resurrection Valley near Seward, Alaska. One of the most spectacular hikes I've ever been on.

Well, I don't have one……but not from lack of trying. I kept getting invalid extensions errors and gave up. Sigh.

Mine was taken from the top of Angels Landing in Zion, UT. Great hike BTW!
