we should be rain free for this weekend folks. Nice!! As for where the trailhead is? I think it is next to the town of Olema. You can take Hwy 101 out of SF, and go over the GG Bridge. Take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. going west. It will take you all the way to Hwy 1. Turn right on Hwy 1 for just a second then turn into the park.

I had 3.50 inches or rain at my home in Scotts Valley!! I need a sun break

Has there been a discussion of the route from the Bear Valley trailhead to Wildcat?

It looks like a hike up the Wittenberg trail to Sky trail down to the water, then past Arch Rock and up and over to Wildcat for a total of 10.5 miles might be good.

Or drop down to the coast on Woodward Valley trail as an option.

Does anyone who has been there have any thoughts?

We plan to arrive at 9:00, is there a set time to set out on the trail? Should the drivers exchange cell numbers in the event of a hold-up? That way if something comes there won't be a lot of wondering going on.

Is there cell reception at the Bear Valley Visitor Center?

Unless something has changed recently, neither AT&T nor Verizon had reliable coverage at the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

No David. The mileage you have stated is incorrect. Skyline is part of the hike. I have a map upstairs and I will look up the route. The hike is more like 6 miles to 6.5 at the most

The For Sale section is filing up nicely. Maybe we should do a trunk sale on Sunday back at the center parking lot before we head back.

my only waterproof shoes ( goretex) are actually boots. What will you wear ?

PostedJan 22, 2010 at 8:51 am

im planning on hiking in my inov8 rocklite 390 gtx
shoes i think they will be good in the mud and water

and they are fairly light to boot

I am going back and forth on shoes. Normally I would wear my inov-8 and live with wet feet. But I expect we are going to see a lot of mud… the one thing I really hate. If it was warmer I would embrace the mud and wear some five fingers which wash off easily but mine don't have the neoprene top so I fear my feet would freeze… I will trail run with them this evening to decide if I want to give them a try. So I am most likely going to wear a pair of inov-8 390s because their surface is less absorbing that the 310.

I've never hiked the trail but watched a little video of someone else's trip. The trail looks open and uncrowded with vegetation from what I could see, but if there are spots with lots of wet leaves, very light low gaiters (we use Integral Designs eVent) will keep a lot of water out of your socks/shoes.

My footwear is partially being dictated by a foot injury I'm recovering from that requires more room in the forefoot/toe box from now on, and my old Vasque Caldera GTX are just too narrow for me (I should add them to the sale list they are in great condition). Only thing I'm left with roomy enough is insulated eVent Keen Growler boot – it may be a bit warmer during the day but will be toasty in the evening and morning and keep my feet quite dry.

im taking down with a golite ether on top of it

if i need it
i called pt reyes this morning and they said its clearing
just pretty wet

we will see when we get there

My wife and I are taking synthetic Montbell Thermawrap Hooded Parkas – it's part of our standard kit and we don't have a down insulation layer (we exchange it for a heavier Patagonia DAS Parka in winter).

We have this jacket one size oversize so we can wear it under or over outer layers, which is very convenient for rest stops on colder trips.

It's looking like it will be dry as others have noted but very muddy.

Jesse…

You haven't sent me email or a PM, and your bpl PM isn't set up. Are you still wanted to borrow the snowpeak 700 and ul caldera? Will you be at the bear valley trailhead saturday at 9 with us?
