Ah well. I have some uncommitted stoves at present. I was expecting them to last a while … Maybe not.

The closing date for final Paypal to me by 8-Jan. Sounds early, but the speed of the Post is a bit variable. Be painful if they turned up a day late! But you need to get in early so I can sort out the postage details. Postage would be to EJ, who would then take them to the GGG.

The stove (any version) costs $140, but if you are a member of BPL the cost is reduced to $125. For the GGG I will drop to $120 per stove, plus Paypal fee of about $5.40, plus postage.

Post and packing for a 1 kg box sent by Registered Post to USA will cost about $32. This has to be divided up among the buyers. The box and packing weigh 200 – 250 g, leaving 750 g for the stoves. A stove weighs ~85 g, so IN THEORY I can get 8 stoves in one box. I would have to use a larger box than normal in order to have enough room for enough bubble wrap, but I have allowed for that. Assuming there are 8 orders, that makes P&P of $4 per stove. Let's run with that for now.

Once we get over 1 kg the P&P jumps to about $55. That gets more expensive, and I don't have too many more than 8 stoves ready right now anyhow.

All stoves are tested in three ways before shipping. They are pressure tested (underwater) for leaks with the stove control valve turned off. They are tested for gas flow to make sure the jet and valve are not blocked. Finally, they are 'burn-tested' to make sure they work how they should. This last test means the burner will not look 'new', as it has had a flame on it.

Regardless of all of that, if you have any problems in this beta-test phase, please contact me. First of all, I WANT to know what problems are found: that's what a beta test is about. A couple of small items have been reported and fixed already – mainly individual problems generally confined to one stove. Anyhow, any faults found WILL be identified and fixed.

So, if you want a beta-test stove at the GGG discount, contact me FAST via roger@backpackinglight.com .

Cheers

Doug I just edited my post above to include the link to Roger's stove article and photos and the latest forum thread (which I also posted below). This is an inverted remote very low CO canister stove that weighs only 3 oz.

There are already two buyers so the shipping is now only $16 instead of $25 and there's an additional $5 discount for GGG attendees, for a $14 total discount. With another two buyers shipping will drop to only $8 each for a $22 total discount and so on. With 8 buyers, it's a $26 total discount.

These are the latest stoves and have the upgraded tripod legs Roger has mentioned.

Aside from meeting some of my favorite folks in the flesh, the GGG is just about the best time to see an amazing variety of high quality light cottage gear in one place – an amazing resource for comparing shelters, packs, sleep systems, etc.

Ken is there a place where everyone can list items they are bringing that others might want to check out, so you know who to seek out at the GGG?

Or might there be an area or planned activity to place like gear items together for people to see/handle? My apologies if this has been mentioned already – haven't read the whole thread.

I'll be happy to post photos/video again for folks who can't make it or who live far away – though that doesn't seem to be stopping Doug : )

With as many as we have coming what won't we have there? Seriously, I don't have a place to list that anywhere here. Should another thread be started? I can put the link in the first post of this thread to help guide people to it.

"With as many as we have coming what won't we have there?" Agreed : ) The problem: so many people, so much gear, so little time. It makes it sooo much easier when you know that John X is bringing Y and Z.

I like the idea of a separate thread with a link to it in the first post of this thread.

It makes it sooo much easier when you know that John X is bringing Y and Z.

John A will be bring this stuff (and probably more) to use and let others play with.

Please bring your UL finery. No awards given for the lightest pack at this event.

Three weeks from now at this time it will be over, and we'll be headed back north.

Enough folks won't mind bringing extra food, water, distilled or brewed drinks, shelter, wood, wipes, Heet packets, chairs etc. that all be covered.

Edited to add.
I am putting together my list and will post it once I make up my mind. For sure it will be a hammock though.

Will confirm with Roger, but looks like there may be only 2 stoves left in this GGG batch.

Ken can we set up a thread for what people plan to bring to Trade/Sell at the GGG Gear Swap? The cottage guys like Kat's Mountaingoat Hats and Goods, Flat Cat Gear, SMD, Trail Designs could post what they're bringing as well. I have no problem starting the thread, but wanted to ask first in case someone already has a list going.

So far 6 are claimed and only 2 stoves remain for this group ship (only 8 stoves can fit in the 1 Kg box). Please contact Roger to paypal him $120 + $5.40 in Paypal fees for the stove; please hold off on paypaling shipping to me until the total per person is known.

Almost full once again. 2 spots left. That will be all there will be this time. I will not add on anymore.

I don't care to install some new MapQuest app, so found directions/map thru Google Maps. I'll be coming from the East, down out of the mountains to 99, then to 5 from Stockton, snow permitting as this seems the shortest route. Taking 5 south to 152 and Gilroy, heading north after Gilroy on 101. Which exit do I take for E Dunne Ave. to get to the Park? Is it marked/signed? Some other info I got, had me turning on yet another road every few tenths of a mile or so it seemed. Too much info to write down and I don't have a GPS. I use wet-finger-in-the-wind technology. With the Google info, I only need 8 points of info to read in 3 hours of driving.
I can see if I can locate a couple maps also.

Take the East Dunne Ave exit off 101, and head East, a right turn if you are coming from 152.

In about 2.8 miles, at the only thing that looks like a fork in the road, stay right on East Dunne Ave, sign for "Henry W Coe State Park 10 miles".

Go to the end of the road to reach Park Headquarters.

I will try to remember to mount my recorder onto the window of Kens van as we head into HC this year, so next year we can have a short video showing how to get up to the spot, once you turn off 101.

Thank you Ken and Rex. Foreign country down there for me. I took my mom to Modesto about 8 years ago to a 50th Anniversary for a couple she knew from when we lived there. The party was at my Grandparents old house. Never would have recognized it except for the two Cedar trees out front.

as Rex said the only real spot one can get lost (having been there tons of times, its easy for me to say) is the weird fork in the road at 2.8 or 2.9 miles from the freeway off ramp… the rest is just taking your time going slow and enjoy the drive… a couple of those hairpins feel like your going to hit your own rear end going around them…

Thanks Michael. The online map makes it look like its miles from the freeway. Hoping to get to camp before dark or sooner Thursday. Gotta make some noise for Ken Friday AM when I fire up a couple old stoves for coffee water and breakfast.
