but seriously: maybe a bit old-timey, but some time set aside in the evening for anyone who wants to recite a bit of verse.

I can't be there but I suggest this and the golden kingdom of… and November Surf by Jeffers. http://www.und.edu/dept/english/ThomasMcGrath.html
Spoken word entertainment. Nice
3 weekends left for me to get ready
Spent the weekend doing some MYOG. I'll be bringing a pack and solo tarp to show off and hopefully get some pointers from the more experienced MYOG crowd.
Have a skill/ability you would like to teach others? Want to make the GGG even better? Step forward and share!
Show time in 3 weeks. Anyone else??
For those interested in doing a wine tasting or scotch tasting let's discuss this..I will bring some stuff if there are others willing to do the same
I would love it if someone would do a presentation on "GPS for dummies" or something like that. Some sort of demo that would give me an idea of what I can or can't do wtih one. Or would I be the only dinosaur who doesn't already know all about them? It could also include something on smartphone GPS apps, I suppose.
I'm sure we can accommodate that. No shortage of geeks here.
You know in the good way.

To make this more interesting, I've decided to bring some single malts I'd like to try (rather than the couple of favorites I tend to stick with on the infrequent occasions when I partake). This means that I may or may not end up liking the ones I bring to "taste," but at least I'll get a chance to sample something new. To help reduce the likelihood that some of us will end up bringing the same selections, I'll specify my choices: The two I've purchased to share at the GGG event are Highland Park 18 and Oban 14.
I'd also be happy to bring three or four bottles of moderately priced red wine to share and "taste." But rather than look for exotic or unknown red wines, I'll bring some I enjoy drinking, but that don't break the bank.
Just attended a tasting dinner in DC hosted by Bruce Williams of Williams Brothers Brewing Co., Scotland, which included some very nice limited single malts from Scottish distilleries with whom they are in collaboration. Will bring a bottle if I can acquire stateside.

Is anyone bringing a smartphone, and more importantly with Backcountry Navigation on it?? I would love to have someone help me figure mine out…thanks!
I'd like that too, that or the Gaia app.
P.S. Does Doug Ide's absence mean we don't get to have GGG Movie Night?
If anyone wants to try and bake something, I'm going to try and bring my MYOG oven I made from a card board box. I just tried it out tonight, made some browines, and they turned out pretty good. It uses charcoal to cook the baked goods, so it has a little smokey flavor, but still taste good. It stayed hot for about 2 1/2 hrs on just 6 brickets. The version I made comes in at 11.5 oz, but I'm going to redue it and try to get it a little litghter. It measures 8x8x8 just big enough to get my GSI pan inside, should be fun, can you say "biscuits and gravy for breakfest" YUMMM!
Movie night shall prevail!
Home movies of Doug!

+1 to Ken's request.
Generally a scotch drinker, but found a very sip-able rum, Brugal 1888. For something a little different I will bring a bottle for the tasting.
Maybe do a mini mash and make some hot scotchies.
I like Tomfoolery Ken!
Regarding the smartphone nav stuff… I've got a relatIvely basic ap (topos2 free) I can show around. I'm very new to the smartphone world so dont expect any masterful insights or tricks.
Now when it comes to using your iPhone to be on BPL while at work… I'm already a pro there.
I won't be running a class or anything but I'll gladly share if you find me and ask.
Looking forward to an action packed weekend!
MYOG "fashion show"? Probably much more entertaining if it comes after the beer/single malt/etc. tastings…
This is a little valentine from Andrea and me for all the wonderful friends we’ve made, the many helpful things we’ve learned and the amazingly creative gear makers we’ve met. With long hours at work and a family member ill, we had to do it in little bits and pieces whenever we could.
We hope this brings a few laughs, and helps remind everyone that it’s not just about the gear and technique, but about the friendships and great trips together. And hopefully it also helps us all avoid taking ourselves too seriously at times.
For those sitting on the fence about coming to the 4th Annual SF Bay Area GGG next weekend, don’t be shy – you’ll have a great time and learn a lot.
And for those of you who aren’t yet BPL members, hope this encourages you to take the very modest plunge and help support our community.
Backpackers Gone Wild: BPL 3rd Annual SF Bay Area Gathering of Gear Geeks (GGG) Feb 26-27, 2011 from Mountainwalker on Vimeo.

-The Gear Stove Boil-Off – WARNING this gets HOT!
-What happens in Coe stays in Coe and things that go bump in the night
-How Tony makes it through a cold lonely night
-Richard Nisley guest interview
-Styrofoam snow and picnicking BPL style
-What lightweight backpackers really sound like
-Debbie’s first place win for shared item
-The next Backpackers Gone Wild casting event
[NOTE – the 2011 trip was in January not February, will correct on the video soon]
How about Cowboy Coffee Cook Off?
I am interested in how people go about preparing their ritual cuppa joe.
