I use a 40* overfill down to 30*. I try hard to rate my stuff very conservative. They have more loft than anything else I've seen for the same rating.

That was fast. :) Kinda like WM is supposed to be, conservative. I've noticed too, that with me being older now, 58, that I sleep a little colder. You know, this is good vintage stove money that I can send all over the world instead of to MN. Thank you.

Tim,
I'm considering buying a couple of your Revelation X quilts for my wife and I, which would be our first quilts. I have a stupid question regarding overfill. Is the total advantage of overfill extra warmth? For example, if I wanted a quilt that would be good down to 30 degrees, am I better off getting the 40 degree with 30% overfill or the 30 degree quilt without overfill. The 30 degree quilt would be warmer based on ounces of down fill and loft but is there an advantage to getting the 40 degree with the 30% overfill (excluding the small weight and price savings) perhaps because there's some advantage (that I don't understand) to the extra overfill?

Do you still overfill the standard quilts by 10%…I think I read that you did that?

Thanks,
David

I suppose it depends if you sleep hot or cold, on your back or side, man or woman, age, weight and how much you move while you sleep.

Generally a young fit adult man that sleeps on his side is the warmest sleeper. An older slim woman that sleeps on her back is the coldest sleeper.

I think of the overfill as insurance that you'll be warm at the spec'd rating. What's more important to you, sleeping warm or saving an ounce? I like sleeping comfortably, which is why I like that Tim's quilts are warm, but have extra ventilation options (footbox, karo baffles) to stay comfortable on warm nights.

Hello guys. Could you share some methods you use with loops-cords[locks] system.
How you use it. Robert earlier posted some useful info on this. I was curious may be someone could add their tips.

Thank you Eugene. Good points. I also forgot, I've noticed this winter while out bping, that I seem to be sleeping colder now, due to age?, as I've used a couple different temp rated WM bags, my Caribou at 35F and my Apache at 15F ratings and seem colder than in the past in both, may be due to fluid/food intake before retiring too. The 30 degree quilt with overfill could be used more in the shoulder seasons and for week bp trips to shave a little weight and my Caribou bag on warmer trips/car camping.

I am 6' 6'' 200 lbs and a side sleeper. I ordered:
Width/Taper: REG/Half Taper
Inside Color: Black
Outside Color: Black
Fill: 30% Overfill
Size/Temperature: 6'6" ~ 20° Temp.

I generally frequent the sierras and have been using a MW Ultralight for years with no temperature issues. I toss around a lot so i thought i would give this a try as my ultra light is a bit constricting as its only a reg length.

Thoughts?

Got my quilt today! I ordered:

Revelation X
6'6", Extra Wide
20 degree standard fill
Green shell, black lining

For reference I am 6'4", 265 lbs, very broad shouldered and a very active sleeper. Mummy bags have always been torture for me so I usually unzip them and use them quilt style anyway.

My brother ordered a nearly identical quilt so the order was for two. Delivery was 39 days from PayPal payment to delivery, fast!

I bought a Golite 3+ season on sale +20% discount while I was waiting and so was wondering if the Rev Ex would be worth the extra $75 to me. Totally worth it! At 25oz it comes in 3 oz lighter than the Golite, and it is way roomier and has a bit more loft. Not to mention the Karo baffles and ability to fully unzip. The Golite is relegated to loaner/backup status.

The seconds fabric is a non issue and craftsmanship is tops! I can't recommend these enough, thanks Tim!

Of all the gear I own, my Rev X is my favourite by far, and I have only had it a little over a month.

We had a house full of people last night resulting in one person having to sleep on the couch – I let them use my quilt to compensate promising they would be cozier than anyone else.

This morning she said she could understand all my raving and that it had been like sleeping in clouds :)

I also want to commend Tim for his patience and help with customers like me who have a panic attack when Australia Post lose their package for awhile……..

this is my first sleeping bag/quilt if you don't count my walmart purchased coleman 40F bag :) although this will weigh 27Oz expecting a ton from the product. I am a tosser and turner so ordered this large quilt.

Just got my quilt — and a lot earlier than I expected. I got a 6', 20° with 30% overfill, black out/orange in. First impression is that it's awesome. Super happy with the purchase, and excited to try it out.

Can anyone recommend a good size stuff sack I should get for it? Leaving for my SOBO PCT hike in roughly a month.

Even I have ordered the same setup, I chose to go with Black inside and brow outside. When I asked Tim for some packs, he recommended Zpacks med cuben roll top. But I am most likely going to just put my quilt down in the backpack without any compression sack.

A while back one of my customers had sent me a revised version of my site that when you would select options from my order form would display the price and weight. It was a fantastic idea but we were planning to completely overhaul the site in a new format so i didn't use it.

Now that i have taken over site maintenance I have no plans of a massive overhaul and i really want to implement the idea. Trouble is i can't find the e-mail in the sea that is my mail folders. If you sent this to me could you please resend it. If you know how to do what he was showing me i'd love some help. This would be a great update to our site allowing the info from our tables to be displayed at your finger tips as you check out the options you want.

Thanks guys(and gals),
-Tim

Ordered on 23rd May.
Delivered 9th June.

It weighs 26oz. Can't wait to put it to test in Yellowstone National Park end of this month.

Tim.
Thanks for the quick turn around.

I have updated our site with new lead times

Revelation(X): 2-4 weeks
Synthetics: 3-5 weeks
Epiphany: 4-6 weeks

Our team has been working hard to reduce lead times and we're very happy that you can now get your gear even faster.

Looking for some size help. I'm 5-11, 170-175lbs, and normally sleep on my side/back so I move around a good bit. I'm looking at the revelation x, and wondering if the 6' regular would be my best choice?

PostedJun 10, 2012 at 1:16 pm

I received my Revelation X quilt from Tim last week and was able to take it out for a test run last weekend. Love it! I got the 30* down with the 30% overfill and the loft of this thing is crazy! The fabric so soft and feels great against the skin.

I wanted to post a picture of my quilt in the red color(sorry for the crappy cell phone quality). I got the black interior which is nice because I can see where the down is lacking with the darker underside.

Hi Tim,

I'm interested in ordering one of your Revelation X quilts..

About me:

Female
5'10" 145 lbs
Thin build
Most trips in Colorado Rockies – Hope to take this bag to Yellowstone though :)
I sleep cold
I'm a side sleeper, but I don't toss and turn much. I might turn over two times per night.
Want something that will work into the shoulder seasons here, above treeline on the shores of alpine lakes
Shoulder season can get into 10's at night, but mostly in 20's to 30's at night
Would be nice if I could extend it into winter camping with down parka and pants.

Obviously, I want to keep the weight down as low as possible- My current golite bag is 38 oz.
Thanks…

6' REG 10* overstuff. This will get you to ten with some clothes and lower with good winter gear (warm sleepers or even avg could take this much lower). Won't be cold in the 20-30s and down will be packed tight to greatly reduce shifting.

Anybody having shifting problems? If yes is it an overstuff or not?

Interested in what others think?

Thanks Tim, wow, quick response. Hopefully I can place an order today. Just one more question before I take the quilt leap. If I get a quilt that warm, will it be totally unusable to me in warmer weather? For instance, in the summer here, it might only get into the 50's in the high country at night. Will I die of heat at that point, or should I really be considering a different quilt for that purpose?

My hope is to get one quilt to do it all seasons here in the Rockies, but that may be unrealistic.

I would melt in that quilt above freezing but typically women need more insulation and if you sleep cold already you might be able to pull off 50*. Opening the footbox and sleeping under it like a blanket will greatly help in warmer temps.

One quilt to cover everything normally doesn't work but if don't mind carrying a little more weight than needed when warm and sleeping in your warm stuff in winter I think you should get pretty close. You may find if you do a lot of deep winter or hot summer stuff that adding quilts as you can will be a better option but this is a good shot at covering everything with one product

I just got back from doing the AT across the smoky mountains. Used Tims 40F quilt and it worked great, actually a bit warm all nights but one. Lows were in 40s at night. Even wore my damp sweaty clothing to bed and left neck of quilt open so my clothes could dry out.

I have been anxiously awaiting our quilts to make their way up the state, and today the mailwoman pulled into our driveway, that's a good sign!

She had this box for us:

Snuggle time!
Except that it had our two new Revelation X's in there when she delivered it!

Hooray!

The plan is for these to be used by our family, one adult and one child sleeping under each quilt, at 56", the normal wide is plenty big for that. At first I thought I'd need a Extra-wide or something similar, but after checking our current bags I decided that wouldn't be necessary. This will save over 3 lbs from our sleeping gear weight for the family, as well as be more comfortable.

double trouble!
They will also be great for just the adults in colder weather when you want to use them wrapped all the way around like a sleeping bag, or in winter as an over quilt over another bag for m ore warmth.

I can say, with the large Karo baffles, the overstuff is almost required for the 40F quilts to keep from getting empty spots somewhere, an issue for many warm weather down items.
