These little trips have been some of the best of what BPL has made possible for me. Wow! I never imagined that this little trip would gather so much attention. The guest list is getting pretty long. I would like everyone on the list to give me a heads up (PM) as to your intent. I will have to make sure I have enough room for Thurs. night so please let me know if you are in for that as well.

As always I am looking forward to meeting some new BPL faces. Has been an exceptional group. Better in person than on the forums.

Bring your ideas for things that can make the annual GGG even better.

Here is the list of interested parties. LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON BRINGING SOMEONE WITH YOU.

Is the group planning on camping at Sapphire Lake on Saturday and hiking out Sunday or is it a true "base camp" at Morris Meadow and a day-hike up to the lakes?

Will stay in the meadow for base camp. Numbers are to large for the one suitable site at the lakes. Plus no fires at the lakes. Breaks up the total mileage into enjoyable amounts. No need to haul your gear all the way to the lakes makes it nice.

Any room left on a permit? I'd love to come. I haven't made it to the Trinity Alps yet. Looks like a great spot.

Jim I am sure that a few on the list won't come. So come on up. We are getting pretty big at this point. I may shut down the invites here soon.

Originally I was thinking that I would have a maximum of 6 people interested. This turnout has me thinking that I may make this an annual trip. We have 2 dozen interested in coming. Wow.

Hey Ken,

Sorry for the late response but I was waiting to see if I could get the time off of work. I'll see everyone that weekend.

PostedSep 27, 2011 at 8:14 am

I'll be there.

My only concern is showing up (long drive, day off work) and finding out that there's no room on the permit. Should I try to snag another?

I've been thinking about coming along as well. If there is room for me or a me+1 I'm in. Probably a Friday or Saturday arrival depending on my work schedule. I'll update when I can confirm a better arrival estimate. What shall I expect for temps in mid-October?

I didn't want to commit until I knew that I could attend but I now have permission and I am interested in adding my name to the list if it is still possible.

@ Jim, Eric, Dave Come on up!

I will need to know about Thurs. night arrivals though. We will be in a campground Thurs. night, and I want to make sure We have enough room secured.

I plan on getting there mid afternoon on Thurs.

Well Ken…
Looks like Marsha(+1) and I will be coming up. Working out details with home and members.
If the numbers get bigger, people can get individual wilderness permits to cover their car load….which might be a good idea anyway. There is no advance reservation, right? Just don't need to announce that we are meeting a large group. :)
Cheers friend..

Be there on Sat. morning…

Ken, if a permit is needed, where is the ranger station and how far? We will be coming up late Friday and I would expect that the office would be closed.

Oh so glad you and +1 are coming! So great idea on carloads of people getting their own permits. Number of guests is getting pretty large now.

OK SO HOW DOES THAT SOUND TO EVERYONE? EACH CARLOAD GET YOUR OWN PERMIT.

Give me a minute to get some info together on how and where to obtain own. Hang on…

OK with the numbers of people coming and the fact that quite few are car pooling. And to not be too obvious with our numbers let each carload pick up your wilderness permit. You can also pick up a California campfire permit too. The permits are located in front of the Forest Service office in Weaverville, right on Hwy. 299 360 Main St. Weaverville, CA 96093
I will get my permit filled out for 10 just in case.

Hope this sits well with everyone.

Just let me know about Thursday.

How to get there…

Get yourself to HWY 299. This would be in Redding if you are coming via I-5.

West of I-5 on HWY 299 you will come to the town of Weaverville and the junction with HWY 3. Take the 3 north.
(Note: The Forest Service office is west of this intersection and will be on your left hand side as you travel West on Hwy. 299, at the end of town)

You will pass a boat ramp and cross a bridge in about 15 minutes or so of leaving 299.

Immediately after the bridge turn left onto Trinity Alps Rd.

Drive slowly through the resort. Follow this road for a short distance until you get to the campground on your left, with the trailhead parking area just beyond.

I could supply a GPS coordinate if needed.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions also.

Thanks for the info Ken,

Is there a limit to the number of permits issued for this area?

EDIT: I was wrong on temp estimates

Chris C BPL Member

Fire and wilderness permits are self serve at the kiosk outside the forest service office, so they will be easy to acquire for anyone heading up after regular business hours.

Anyone headed up on Thursday afternoon/evening from the SF area?

I can leave work between 2:00 and 3:00 on Thursday. I can drive or hop in the back seat (with a fist full of gas dollars), either way.

Look at Trinity Center instead of Weaverville. Temps should be warm at most during the day with lows around 40'ish. Nice.

Looks like I might make it after all, if there's room, just waiting for the boss to ok the time off. I'll know for sure by Fri. or Mon.

Wow, this thing is going off. Quite a group!

Now who was it that said they'd supply tasty beverages for everyone? ;)

Sorry to hear that Doug. We'll have a drink in your honor. OK maybe more than one.
