Bumping this trip.

October 20-23 2011

Camp at Bridge Camp Thurs. night. Let everyone get there.

Hike in on Friday morning to Morris Meadow. Saturday up to the lakes. Enjoy some of the nicest time of year up here!

About a dozen have expressed interest. Morris Meadow is a large area. We won't feel crowded with a large group.

Let me know if you are interested in Thurs. night as well. Want to make sure we have enough room for all who want to come.

Sent you a PM James.

I'll be there for Friday morning. If I carpool up with James we will be at the bridge Thursday night depending on when he gets out of work. If we are too late crashing in Redding might be a better plan. I should now that in the next day or so.

What time do you want everyone there Friday morning Ken?

I'd love to attend, but I'm not sure if I'll be back in the area. Is it possible to RSVP as a definite maybe?

@ James. Glad you can make it. Guessing a departure time around 9am will work for most.

@ Diane. Sure, will keep you in mind. Doubtful that a limit will need to be set, so please come if you can.

I'm in and financially committed!!! Just booked my flight into SFO for Thursday.

I can't wait to meet everybody.

I'll do my obsessive homework but if anybody has suggestions of things you'd guess an 'East of the Mississippi' backpacker might not think of, let me know.

Jim. Let us know if there are any items you need that you can't fly with. I'm sure we all have gear to spare.

Jim –

I ask because I am considering leaving during the day on Thursday. Maybe we can work out a ride. I'm in the East Bay, but we can figure something out.

It's an option…..

Wait…..do you already have a ride worked out from SFO? Can you switch to Oakland without incurring fees or too much hassle?

Also, I might be returning on Saturday. If I do, another Southerner would have to give you a ride back on Sunday

Just starting to consider this but I've always wanted to see the Trinity Alps area.

Is there room for more? I'd be driving down from Portland?

David- Are you bringing anyone?

I'll try and keep you up to date on things…

PostedSep 7, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Yeah, I'm bringing Jimmy.

Just kidding!

Greg is considering it and I know Dave is watching the thread.

Hopefully a fair number of us can carpool from the Bay Area. There is also the possibility of consolidating gear to reduce weight. We will see as the trip gets closer.

Thanks for asking David. Yes, I'm setup to ride with James. The more people that come up from that area the better so we all have backup. I'll be jumping on the BART to where ever James wants me(probably to his work).

Ken,

Do we have a route/trails we know we are taking? I'd like to be educated at much as possible on the area. Also, I saw your wood stove comment. I understand it's a personal judgement call. I'm a little unclear what all variables your referencing(just temp? maybe it tends to be windy making low pressure fuels undesirable). Canisters tend to be ok in the 30s and well below(especially remote and inverted). I'm not trying to debate anything (I'll be the first to claim ignorance)just making sure I'm not missing the boat on anything, I've never backpacked in the area and don't want to fly across the US to learn I made a stupid stove choice;->

I understand this is off topic to the thread. Feel free to PM me.

I am still in for this trip. I think I will need to leave Thurs. eve after work and get to the trailhead late. I will be leaving from Sacramento area and have room for at least 2.I would also plan on coming back Sunday.

If anyone is interested in carpooling with me send me a PM and we can arrange details.

Cheers,

Adam

I'm interested, but I cannot do Thursday.

Anyone bay area thinking a Friday or Saturday drive?

Have a car if needed. In Berkeley area.

Sheesh… Jim, James…you guys must have it rough Ken and…uh…Ken

Jim, I'm still totally up for driving with you, but if the timing works better with David (or anyone else), then absolutely go for it… my feelings won't be hurt. BART gets you to the east bay pretty easily, so there are ways to make that work) If he leaves saturday, I'll drive you back. If you still plan on riding with me, since your flight gets in at 11 you might have some time to kill before I'm off work (there are worse places in the world to kick around for a few hours than SF!)

Kat or anyone else. I'm pro-carpooling if possible. It seems like my (and for now, assuming Jim's) timeline is to hit the road after work hours on thursday to try and make the trailhead late…midnight-ish. But with the bail out plan of crashig partway somewhere in the middle(Redding?) and getting to the trialhead early to get on the move with everyone at 9ish friday morn.) For anyone else, that would probably entail a departure from SF around 5-5:30 and probably going through Berkeley, Vallejo, Fairfield and on up 80e to the 505 to the 5.

Chime in if it seems like your travel timeline jives with that.

And, with this oktoberfest theme, I'm shocked no one has mentioned beer!!! We might be lacking Cameron's microbrews, but I'm assuming that we should still be factoring a few extra oz's into our consumables??
