Turns out I have that weekend free. So I'd like to come if I can hitch a ride with someone. Flexible getting around Bay Area to meet up, so PM me if you'd like a lively conversation on the drive up!
Nathan, I'd do it, but my wife and I are coming from Fresno this time.
However, I do believe that Lane lives in San Francisco and he is coming with Cary. Check into that
I might be in I just don't know where this is at, does some one have directions? I live in Bakersfield, are we hiking in on Sat. spending the night and hiking out Sun, is it still June 20th? Let me know I might bring my daughter. How many appetizer do we bring ie. how many will be sharing? and is pizza considered an appetizer? huh! I know, a lot of questions but I've never been on a group hike with BPL members before, any info would help. I've been hiking for about 7 years now so I'm not quite a newbie. Thanks Jack
Jack we are going to Bear Lake in Emmigrant Wilderness. We are heading in June 20th and leaving June 21st. Simple out and back. Emmigrant Wilderness is located on Hwy 108 which can be accessed from Hwy 99 as you come up from Bakersfield. The ranger station information is on this thread for getting a permit, as they are required. The hike is around 3 miles and is pretty mellow, only gaining around 500 feet from the TH. Tom Harrison makes real good maps of Emmigrant (and just about everywhere else!). If you and your daughter would like to join us, please feel free, we always enjoy meeting others. This is a loose fitting group that has members show up for whatever hike interests them. Not a group or club per se. Pizza????? Always!!! Big fan myself sooooo in a nutshell, I'd say yes. Let me know if you'd like to attend so that we can look out for you. Campsites on this lake are located on the northern edge as well as the north eastern part. All are quite easy to find too. Just look for lightweight shelters and you found us. Pretty easy really!!!
Well, I cannot get off work that Friday. And with it being like a 20 hour round trip drive after driving my route all week, well….. You all have a wonderful time. And hopefully we can do something else soon. Trinity Alps, Marbles anyone?
he's crashing here friday night
you are welcome to do the same if cats don't bother you too much
may or may not also have my friend missy along – not sure yet
Looks like I'm in Ken but my daughter has to go to a graduation party that Sat. How much pizza stuff should I bring. We usaully take small flour tortias with pepperoni and some cheese no sauce, or I can bring something else. What time do you plan on starting your hike, and how long does it take you to get to the TH from Fresno? That way it will give me an idea on what time I need to leave Bakersfield. I'll be driving a white Chevy 2008 1/2 ton if you want to meet up at the TH.
Bummer Ken! Trinity Alps would be fun. Let's put that on the list.
Cary and Lane…cooridinate with Nate?????
Jack cool. Glad to have you along!
From Fresno….Hmmm….. I'd sayyyy 2 1/2-3 hours??? Hwy 120/108 East starts in Manteca and it is a 2 hour drive so I would say 3 (thinking out loud here). My wife and I will be there around noon-ish on Sat. If you want to hike with us…no problem. Though it is a short hike of around 3 miles.
Sounds good, always good to hike with company.
ken posted "i will be bringing bruschetta"
hey ken – is "bruschetta" the name of a stripper? excuse me, that wasn't very sensitive…
is "bruschetta" the name of an exotic dancer?
shhhh Bruschetta is my wife's stripper name Cary…….
One week away and here's to hoping the weather will be better. Who'd thought that in June huh?
Final headcount???
My wife and I
and?
Lane and I are coming & are actually going to keep going until Tuesday
My friend Missy is definitely coming, but she's going back Sunday
is there anyone who might be able to drop her off in Sacramento area on the way home Sunday – otherwise she'll just drive on her own, but if a ride is possible, I'll let her know she can head up with me & Lane
Alternately, is anyone else interested in two more days up there who can drop me & Lane off in Sacramento area?
hey ken & anyone else familiar with the lake
is this a typical sierra brook trout type lake with fairly aggressive brook trout and a lot of top water action?
any fishing info/tidbits appreciated :)
Not sure Cary about the lake. People do fish it though. I think that the east and west side of the lake is best for fishing. Lost of logs, willows etc. If that makes sense. Jealous that you guys are continuing on for a few days extra!
I'll be hiking in on Friday. Sea Yawl at Bear Lake.
Ken I might hike in on Friday with Denis I shot him a pm but haven't got an answer yet. I took Friday off so I could spend more time up there, gotta be back on Sunday so I can celebrate my 18th wedding aniversary on Mon.,Tue.,Wed. so come on Denis if your out there you want a hiking partner on Friday? Let me know,if so what time do you want to start the hike? Ken does every person have to have a permit or just the group, or 1 permit for say 2 people?
It looks like myself +2 maybe +3. I will up there Friday morning perhaps camping at Lake Chewing Gum the first night and then back down to Bear Lake for the meet up. I am really looking forward to getting out of the office this week.
Cary,
I have never fished the lake but the book I have describes Bear Lake as "fair for fishing medium sized rainbow trout." Keep in mind the book is a couple of years old.
Ken I'm in for one, just don't what day I going in on yet, would like to go in on Friday. How many pizzas do we need? let me know after you get a head count. They are about 8" across I use the small fajita/gordita tortias. Does any one know what the whether is going to be like?
The NOAA forecast shows highs around 60 and lows near 40. Always a chance of T-storms, especially this summer.
I've fished the lake a couple of times, but always later in the season. I took a nice rainbow (14") on a green wooley bugger and a sinking line a few years back. I've never seen any top water action. The stream above and below the lake have had lots of small fish that come readily to small flies. I've seen spin fishermen there, but never seen them catch anything. Hope this helps. It is a pretty lake. Unfortunately I can't make it this weekend.
Well Ken looks like I'm in for 2 now, my youngest son wants to go. Sorry Denis and David if you got my pm looks like I'll have to hike in on Sat. hope to see you there Ken. I'll try to be at the TH at 11:30 am on Sat. I have the trail head at lat/lng 38 degrees 10'43.65"N by 119 degrees 54'25.78"W does any one know if this is correct? Don't want to get off on the wrong TH.
