Also, I’ve found that roundish handled flatware is impractical – it wants to roll in the hand when in use.  I’m always amazed that some standard flatware sold for day to day uses has small roundish handles. It’s just bad industrial design.

The handles are square, not roundish.

Keep it simple, durable and very compact (long handled spoon). Framed by mini Bic and Dragonfly

After eating I just dip the joint (and the other parts of the spoon) into the boiling tea water and swish which sterilizes and cleans it out, super easy then wipe it down. If I’m really scared the bristles of the toothbrush do the extra scrub job down into crevices with a couple additional seconds. Then I make the tea and drink it with a little star gazing. Never been a problem over hundreds of nights. I was drinking a coconut milk chocolate turmeric latte when the inspiration for this image came so it might have some latte on it but has been cleaned after the sipping was finished. Lol

I’d suggest doing a similar cleaning on fiberglass reinforced plastic too.

I really like my plastic REI long handled spoon… it does not fold and will not fit into my pot… but easy to put it in my food bag or canister…
I had a folding spoon years ago and found it a PITA to clean and fiddle with…
The long plastic spoon is easy, simple, and cheap…

The REI spoon is no longer made. I’ve got three of them floating around the house. They are very good, even if not compact. The essentially exact spoon is made by GSI (makes me think they made the REI version).

However, some of us prefer not using plastic with hot foods. We all have way too much chemical interactions in our lives.

As to folding spoons being a PIA, I’d have to speculate you never used the Snow Peak folder with central screw knob. It’s as far from a “PITA” as can be.

That’s me. All plastics leech chemicals, toxins and hormones,. Yes even all food grade plastics do too. It’s hard to get totally away from plastics but hot food and drink can bring the nastiness out faster and in higher quantities so we avoid using it for flatware, cups and so forth.

Me too… but I still prefer the plastic long handle REI spoon…
To not use the spoon due to plastic concerns seems like a trivial health improvement… when considering that virtually all the food you carry backpacking will be packaged in plastic… and the freeze dried food bags are lined with plastic… and the water bottles we use are plastic… our clothing is a form of plastic, our tooth brushes are plastic…. on and on and on…
Ha… I use metal spoons at home where 98% of my meals are consumed…

Me too, no plastic with hot water

Currently I use a stainless steel spoon I got at the Goodwill.  The wife would not appreciate me using one of our regular spoons.

It didn’t fit in my pot well so I cut off the end with hacksaw, then filed it smooth.

Not that I was saving a fraction of a gram.

I am not into Ti spoons: I much prefer the non-heat-conducting plastic ones from the likes of GSI. And they are lighter too.

But what did catch my eye at AliExpress was a windscreen for the BRS-3000T:

Granted, the $19 price is a non-starter (at least for me), but the concept is very interesting.
    Yeah, thread-drift. Sorry.

    Cheers

More thread drift: interesting windscreen for the BRS3000T. Looks like it raises the pot about 1/2″ higher from the burner. Wonder how it affects performance.
