Do we have a list going to set up carpools to the parking area to save on parking? What's the parking fee?

All is available on the Wiki tab. Just click on CA Chapter.

As for fees, just check out the Henry Coe site and click on fees. I would assume that it is less than $10

How can I officially get in on the Wood Stove burnout action?

If I've stuff to sell/trade do I need to get on that list too?

Thanks!

Hey all-

I'm so excited for this! I'm a relative newbie to this site and can't wait to meet some of these great people!

I do have a quick question about how people are planning on storing food. I'm thinking mostly in regards to critters, not bears. Are there boxes there? It's not like anyone will have too much food, we are there for that long…just curious.

I just had an image of dozens of food bags hanging from the same tree :)

a bear cannister is required. There are lots of bears in the Diablo Range and I am sur the rangers will be checking each pack at the trailhead

That was a joke. I have an Outsak that I just purchased and will be giving it a try. I am sure there are food boxes available at each site. Most sites in CA have those

Ken…nice! For an honest second i was worried. "You mean I'm going to have to rent a bear canister?!?!?" haha!

Good to know there will likely be boxes. I haven't been to henry coe before so was uncertain about the facilities.

Thanks again… see you there!

I don't recall seeing food boxes at the group sites. But that shouldn't be a problem. I've slept with my food for at least 50 nights out in the park backcountry without incident.

Just thinking out loud. Would Sam H & BPL be willing to drop a Backcountry Boiler in a box to us for testing at the wood stove burnout?

Any others willing?

"Would Sam H & BPL be willing to drop a Backcountry Boiler in a box to us for testing at the wood stove burnout?"

Well, let's just say that won't be necessary…….

I’m bringing two or three of my daughters (depending on whether one gets over her cold by then). They are 7, 9 and 12. We intend to hike in on Friday from Hunting Hollow (actually most likely from the Coyote Creek entrance). You can see our current hiking plan here. It is a 10.5 mile hike. We plan on being at Hunting Hollow around lunch or the early afternoon on Friday and will then hike as long as we have light. On Saturday we hope to reach the group camp around lunch time.
Right now we don’t yet know how to get back to our car on Sunday, but hopefully we will find a friendly hiker at the meeting who can give us a ride.

See you and your kids at Coe

I am glad one will be at the burn out. I expect a number of us are very interested in checking it out. If Sam was looking for a good raffle prize….

"The Four Dog Stove BUSHCOOKER will prevail at the Burn Off!!!!!"

You can get 2 cups of water to boil in less than 2.5 minutes? 'Cause that's what it's going to take!

I see how it works: He lights that creosote soaked plank with the Esbit tabs and the whole thing goes off like a Saturn 4B. Are the twigs in the background just for show?
