Ken,

Please count me in for the BPL trip.

I just PMed you on asking how I can contribute money for the site.

Just myself for now….if my wife and daughter can make it, I will let you know or ask to see if there are additional spots open.

Either way, I will be there for sure.

Real close Doug. SJ airport is 30 miles north of Henry Coe Park.

And is there someone who might live close to the airport where I could crash Fri and Sun nights? I can taxi from/to the airport.

Yes SJ is San Jose. I am not sure about crashing arraingment for Firday, however I do know that Ken T. is coming in on Friday from Northern CA. and you might be able to work something out with him. Ken is the other Ken that is helping put this together. Maybe you can pm him?? I am sure there are some others that live in SJ that would open there home to you

Yes, SJ is San Jose. SJC is the San Jose Airport. If you get on the wrong airline, San Jose could mean San Jose Costa Rica. Then you are in trouble.

"If you get on the wrong airline, San Jose could mean San Jose Costa Rica. Then you are in trouble."

Depends on your definition of trouble……

A guy could do worse than Costa Rica in February.

Several people are starting this gathering on Friday night, so you could crash right there.

Good point Katharina. Hopefully, if I can make this happen, I'll be able to get an earlier enough flight to do so.

Andrea and I will paypal our share. Thanks again for organizing – can't wait!

FYI Had a friend who did a trip in Henry Coe even much later in the season last year, I think late March, and it got very cold – apparently this isn't uncommon, so pack/dress accordingly. He went a little too lightweight on clothing and had to run out part of the way Sunday morning to stay warm enough (helps that he's a long-distance runner).

Happy to put you up if we are home – that's still up in the air. We're only about 20 min from San Jose airport.

Who? All nice people who are interested in lightweight and ultralight backpacking.

What? The largest non-commercial lightweight and ultralight inclined backpackers get together anywhere.
Gear, gear and more gear. With a swap meet so you can get some gear.

When? Feb 25-27th 2011

Where? Henry Coe State Park Fri. night at the Coe Ranch campground by the visitor center spots 11, 13, 14…
Sat. Hike to Manzanita Point group camp spots 9, 10

Why?!? To promote fellowship and to meet other "light minded" people to forge hiking partner alliances.
OK. To get out of the house in the middle of winter to go camping with a great bunch of people. And gear, beer.

We will have support vehicle capability to haul things to Manzanita Point.

The largest get together is surely Trail Days on the East Coast, followed by ADZPCTKO…

Ken,

Do we know who is driving the “support” vehicle?

I am happy to donate a Costco size box of Durflame type logs for keeping us warm at night.

Maybe we want to have some charcoal too?

Have a little bit left over from last year, but another bag would be nice.

Since I suck with remembering people’s names, I will bring name tags and a pen.

Given that we have the option of support vehicles, this opens up a lot of possibilities for creature comforts to be taken on this trip.

Does anyone have a large tarp or one of those “pop” wall-less shelters you see at Art and Wine festivals?

Might be a good idea if it rains or we can just huddle like penguins together to stay warm. :)

And again, thanks to both Ken T. & Ken H. for getting this “tradition” going and keeping it alive….it is a great thing to meet up with other ULers.

To help with motivating people to come out:

BPLer’s GGG: Point Reyes, CA. 2nd Annual Trip

BPLer’s GGG: Point Reyes, CA

BPLers GGG: Henry Coe State Park, CA.

I will be taking photos because it is what I do.

However, to speed things up on getting the photos up on the BPL site, I will request everyone’s help with creating captions and identifying people and gear in the shots.

When I get home that day or within a day of returning, I want to do a quick sort, clean up, and will post the photos online with a Number by each photo either without captions or very little information.

I request that people email or PM me with information pertaining to themselves in the relavent shots.

Example email:

Photo #23: Jay in red monbell thermawarp jacket

Photo #44: Jay’s Mountain Lauel Designs Exodus pack with Henry Shire Double Rainbow

Photo #64: Jay’s Caldera Tri Ti Cone with MSR Titan Kettle

You get the idea.

This sort of help will be greatly appreciated and save me from the embarassement of not remembering eveyrone’s names and knowing all the gear in the shots.

Thanks and can not wait to see everyone and to make new friends.

-Tony

Ken T., Ken H., and Others,

To further the reach of BPL, should we invite Tom Stienstra (tstienstra@sfchronicle.com), the outdoor writer for the San Francisco Chronicle to our outing? I did invite him to BPL Outing #2, but didn't get a response.
