Where is Dardenelle Lake? Is there a Tom Harrison map for the area?
I don't think that there is a map of the trail, especially on Tom Harrison. The lake is off of Hwy 89, between Hwy 88 and Hwy 50. If you were driving on Hwy 89 from Hwy 88 the trailhead is on the west side of the road. It is an easy hike of around 4 miles or so
Thanks!!
Is there a parking lot ? A trailhead sign ?
Hey Cameron! Yes there is. Across from the TH on the other side of the road there is a paring lot/bathroom/picnic area, cars are parked on the Hwy next to this and you cross the road and head in. This is a real nice, beautiful hike. The trailhead is easy to find due to that picnic area on the road being the only area of its kind on this stretch of the Hwy. Between Hwy 88-Hwy 50 on Hwy 89 it is only a mile or so in length to Hwy 50
Not sure if i'll make it or not. Heading to the mountains next week and I'll decide if I want to go when I get back.
Is there a carpool leaving from SF? If so, I'd love to split gas..
It looks like there is a possibility of a through-hike to HWY88 near Caples Lake, if we can work out a shuttle arrangement.
Just an idea……
If you were to end up with us, that will not be a problem. I know Caples is close by. Please join us, we don't bite
Ken: I'm still trying to figure out if I can make it work to go. I'll let you know as soon as I can. If I can go, I'd be up for an East Bay carpool.
Kenny,
That's a great hike. You also have the choice of a loop ending down the Upper Truckee canyon. Don't forget your pole and the aluminum foil, I think there's a fish or two in Dardenelle Lake.
I'm leading a trip in Emigrant, from Crabtree to Kennedy Meadows, September 26 through October 2, so I won't be able to make it. Hope I can make your January Pt. Reyes trip this time.
You guys have a blast.
I'm 95% sure I'm in….sounds like a blast.
I'm just returning to backpacking and now switching to lighter stuff. I haven't been out this late in the year in a very long time and I don't want to be cold at night!
Here's what I have, any feedback would be appreciated.
Socks
Capilene bottoms
Mid-weight Patagonia zip-t top
Patagonia poly-fill jacket w/hood
Beanie
Flannel bag liner that supposedly adds 10*
GoLIte Ultra 20
Ridgecrest 3/4 closed cell pad (I can add another full length CC pad, too)
And I'll be in a MH Sprite tent.
Dave you need a good pair of gloves…They really help at night and in the morning.. The Possum gloves from BPL good and lite.

Hope I can make it. Sounds fun. My mother in law lives about 10 miles from there. Maybe I can call it a family trip and sneak away for the night.
Thanks Jay…good call….I'll add gloves to the list. Anybody else have any input on whether this list is sufficient for late Sept Sierras? I don't actually have the GoLite Ultra 20, I ordered one but it fell through. Might rent a WM bag from a local shop.

Do you guys need directions? Hwy 395 to Hwy 88 to Hwy 89 North will do it the best. And, you get a beautiful drive too. I am looking at a 1-2 pm start time. The hike is quite easy and can be started later if needed. Let me know if more detailed directions are needed. Thanks for responding.
So we have +4
Me and maybe my wife
so far
I still plan on being there…..
Any comments on whether I'm bringing enough for the night?
any idea what the temps might be like im guessing
mid 30 s at night but not sure i just don t want my son to be miserable if it gets chilly

I am coming, possibly my daughter, 14. Maybe carpooling with Josh.
I'm out. Have fun without me! Just got back from a trip today and not ready to turn around right away.
I was under the impression that this trip was the weekend of the 26th . . . but then I thought I also saw references to the third weekend in september, which starts tomorrow.
Are people heading out tomorrow, or next weekend ?
I think it's for 9/26….
Sorry for the confusion folks. It is Sept. 26th. Saturday to be exact.
I have been switching jobs and have been VERY busy and my mind over the past two weeks has not been to sharp while at home.
Sept. 26th, Dardenelle Lake off of Hwy 89 between Hwy 88 and Hwy 50. Parking will be on the east side of the hwy. There is a rest stop picknic kind of place on the eastern side. That is where you park on the hwy. This rest stop is the only one on the hwy between the other two Hwy's (88&50).
The trail starts directly across from the parking lot. I will be starting at 1pm as I am driving in from the Bay Area. If anyone wants to meet up at that time or let's say between 12-1 pm that would be great. I am driving a Grey Honday CRV with a bike rack on it.
i have not put it in my gps yet but it looks like we may have to take hwy 395 thru bishop and over the pass at toms place
if i could get detailed directions from the bishop area
that would be great also bishop is 4 hrs for us
unless there is a faster route from hwy 99 north it looks like going thru bishop will be the best
also
is there any way to get a general idea weather report for
this area??
when bringing my young son my concern is always his comfort
so i was just wondering if i could get a general idea on the possible temps
thanks all looking foward to meeting everyone
