What lake was the bear at? 1000 Island? never seen a bear near any of the lakes in the north, definitely not during the day (they came in force at Shadow Lake at night, though)
Peter that was 1,000 lake! He came right through are camp at about 3:00 pm.

We had to throw some rocks at him to move on.

I think the same bear swimming the next day.
Jay the swimming bear photo rocks!

The trip ended with a very dirty bath in Lone Pine
that tub looks vaguely familiar :-)
15 minutes internet for $10 – not a bad deal given there's no phone up there. This is right in their little store, last summer. Slow connection, so don't plan to upload your pictures from there.

Mac = respect points (posted from my MacBook Pro).

Jay and Peter,
Those are great pics! Actually sent chills down my spine. Thanks for posting them.

> Peter – Wow, a little weird, I was looking at that page on the same day! – hadn't been there for several months.

Tenaya Lake on the right, with Tioga Pass road clearly visible towards Olmstead Point

late afternoon looking up in the direction the trail takes to get to Mather Pass

Kent: that second photo's just a couple of stone tablets shy from being a perfect Moses :-)
Charlton Heston's got nothing on this.
