not a hard one to guess

and if that's not enough – how about this view?

PostedMar 13, 2009 at 6:11 pm

this was before they outlawed overnight camping on top of Half Dome

no, that's not a UFO, just somebody with a flashlight walking by while I was fast asleep – or maybe not?

same place in the morning – and the pants sure date the image (1989)

and this view shows the same peak as well as Clouds Rest on the left, which is not just a great alternate route for the JMT in that area, it also has to be the coolest place to spend the night on top of. The view on Clouds Rest is probably second to none in Yosemite.

at least I thought at the time that there was no greater place to set up your tent than Bighorn Plateau. This is again in 1990, all alone that day, didn't see a human after we started up on Forester to get there.

your water source (it doesn't taste very good, though)

the day before this image was taken in 1989, we came from Glen Pass, got to Guitar Lake at sunset, ate some food, saw the full moon rise, so we just went on to the summit of Whitney. Got up there at 3am without the need of any headlights.

3 hours later the sun came up with the moon still on the Western Horizon. The long shadow at the bottom is Mt. Whitney's shadow.

Camp high above Fish Valley before Grassy Lake, on the way up to Silver/Goodale Pass on the other side of the valley where the JMT hops from Duck to Purple Lake. 1989 again. Next day just above VVR, we had a bear try for our food, as well as a 10pm earth quake that shook the trees around us enough to have us somewhat worried.

Send photos of house. We may be able to work out a swap… but I'm keeping the Sierra.

Here's the house, but note there is also a rider that you have to take my wife too. And no, she doesn't cook or clean, she just inhabits the house. Oh yeah, bring your wallet.

they are not enlarged – that is actually downsized from the orginal scan size. These are slides I scanned a long time ago on a slide scanner. I don't know the source of your images, but theres no camera that takes images as small as yours.

Do you upload them to BPL? That may also resize them. Mine sit on my server, so I guess I may be allowed to do whatever I do, given I am not taking up bandwidth here at BPL.

For more images, I have to go back to the scanner. There are 5000 slides from those '88-'94 hikes in the Sierras, and there are a lot worth scanning. Problem is that my scanner is an old SCSI interface and all my computers right now don't really have that anymore. Plus, when I do get around to scanning slides again, I want to do it right, which means to get a better scanner. Don't really have time right now to dig into that so I am putting this off.

I will post some digital images from last year, taken off my HD camcorder, which will be quite different, and the colors aren't quite as vibrant.

Guys, these picures are truly awesome.,

I have on my "before I die list" to walk the PCT, looks like I will have to add the JMT to the list.

Well done!

Mark, if you hike the PCT you will have hiked the majority of the JMT and you can always take a side trip to Yosemite Valley when you reach Tuolumne Meadows.
