Hello All,
A recent night under a tarp in hard blowing spindrift has reminded me of the benefits of a fully enclosable shelter for winter (perhaps even *gasp* with a floor). The Scarp 1 is an obvious candidate, but I have a few questions before I commit.
First, it is not clear to me how the end struts meet the ground. Would they stay on top of stamped-down snow, or sink in under the tension of the guylines?
Second, how much of the inner tent is mesh, and is the mesh high enough to keep out spindrift and wind in bad weather? Considering the presence of mesh rather than a solid inner tent, does it still warm up a bit from body heat?
Third, can it sleep two people (say both are 5'10" or less) in relative comfort? I ask because while my girlfriend will likely almost never accompany me on winter trips, the promise of a secure shelter might sweeten the deal a bit, and the smaller size of the Scarp 1 as opposed to the upcoming Scarp 2 might be a bit warmer given its lower volume.
Thanks for your thoughts.
James
