Also looks like the Hillberg Atko and its weight is about the same, so what is the advantages? 1. is the 2 doors which allows for cross flow ventilation, and maybe less condensation and options for exit and entry, 2. maybe the struts but I am not sure 3. Could be pitched without the inner and ??? there maybe others

But very interesting, especially with the crosspoles.

If I didn't already own an excellent winter shelter, albeit heavier, I'd give this one a try. The Scarp 1 is certainly feature loaded with nice vestibules and accesses. Quite a departure from the "usual" single wall shelters, Henry. (Give me a chance to get my Sublite Sil up this weekend before tempting me, again)

Wow! I wish I had some money right now. This would be my winter tent. Wonder how it does with shedding snow. Nice job Henry, looks fantastic!!!!!

it does resemble the terra nova/akto. not that its a bad thing, those are both deservedly popular models.
appears to me, the Rainbow and the Sublite had a cute baby.
Too bad for me, where I live in AZ doesnt have 4 seasons.
its just hot, and then really hot.

Whew! I feel like I just gave birth. It certainly took about as long to conceive, gestate, and send out into the world.

The Scarp is a very flexible 4-season design that combines a number of elements from other shelters we've done and, of course, elements from other shelters too. The foldable, inverted-V strut support, integrated into the canopy, is a unique element and greatly improves stability over competing single strut designs. The corners, when staked, simply do not move under load. With crossing poles, the scarp is also completely free-standing (but like anything else, stake it for storms). If you don't care about free-standing and don't need heavy snow-loading support the Scarp will take a lot of weather as is and is certainly the warmest shelter with best gear space in our lineup. Lots of venting and view options and the canopy/fly is completely separate from the inner compartment so one can certainly pitch just the canopy.

Ok, now I need a vacation…

Awesome looking shelter! Let's see Scarp 1 that means there will be a Scarp 2 (2 person) and Scarp 4 (4 person) right? Just kidding.

I really like that you can pitch it without the inner tent. This is a great looking shelter for a lot of conditions.

Great looking design!

Beautiful! I have always been impressed by tents that set up with an inner and outer tent, like Hilleberg's tents. This is fantastic and I would love test test it out in northern Minnesota this winter. Alas, I cannot justify another shelter. Maybe someday.

Tarptent is doing like the auto manufacturers—reveal a new style and sell the base models first. Then, after everyone has rushed out and bought one, pull out the sporty-bodied, turbocharged models.

Nice work Henry. Like most folk that have been hiking for years, i have quite a few shelters (including one of your Contrails). Newbie hikers can be confused by the range of shelters out there.
This tent is excellent value for the newbie hiker. At one flash of the cash, they can have a collection of shelters! :)

David,Buy the new Tarptent Scarp1, wrap it in pretty paper, put it under the tree and give it to your wife for Christmas. Maybe she will let you use it now and then.

Henry, Congradulations on the new family member, you should be very proud.

Do the windows zip closed or are they fixed open, and do you think that would have an appreciable effect on heat loss?

I'm gathering there's no way to use the inner without the fly?

Why did you post a pic of the Hilleberg Akto?…jk

WOW!!! Congratulations Henry! There are no superlatives to adequately describe your new tent. It is beautiful, elegant, rock solid; it conjures up a granite buttress daring for a storm. Ooops, getting carried away. I bet the orders are piling up by the second.

Just looked at it on the TT web site. I would like one with out a doubt. Ideal for the wet and windy UK. Q.Henry have you got many in stock.

The carbon corner struts look like a good idea. It's the flappiness of the ends which always put me off from this design before. Well, that and they weren't long enough for me to sleep in without getting a face full of nylon.

How long is the inner tent Henry? Any chance of a 'tall hiker' option? :-)

The flat end interests me. Would it stand up better pitched end into the wind, or side on? Height and length is a good point Rog. Also Henry what is the strongest wind speed you have tested it in?

Roger, Per the Tarptent site the inner tent floor measures 32" x 86". The height is 15" at the ends and 39' at the center.
