I guess acknowledgement of how this situation has been mishandled is not in the cards; something to do with the belief that not admitting wrong doing saves face.
The couple of members that have expressed relief or pushed for a continuation of this should think about the ( lack of ) process instead of their feelings towards Bob Gross.
Time to do the right thing BPL: bring Bob back!

Ps. Bob came to my house and hiked with me to check my trail cameras; he is a wealth of knowledge and losing that over a small percentage of snarky posts is not a smart move .

Snarky? Yes

Do I want him back NOW? Yes

I agree with most people here. We need his inane remarks to remember to keep it together. Personally, I never had a lot of use for his remarks, some are downright rude. Fine. Some are thoughtful and full of info, if brief. Fine, too. On occasion he directed some at me. If I couldn't stand the heat, I'd get out of the kitchen. So, I can't spell, 'specially given the ancient nature of the forum software. (Let alone how close misspellings often lead to rather humorous results, hey, ha!) Grammar? Spelling? What does this have to do with backpacking? Well, if you post, then you know that anything worth doing is worth doing right. Communication, and writing here, is often *much* facilitated by his wry remarks. Nope, we need his sense of humor, and laughable way of pointing out my errors and sometimes yours.

He is just an old crotchety man willing to share what he knows, and, willing to help with communications. Bring him back.

What was that remark about defending his right to say something you strongly disagree with? Something to do with the freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to express yourself… Please apply this simple rule.

Without even trying hard, I can think of half a dozen posters here who annoy me much more than Bob. Get rid of 'em all or (better) let everyone stay.

Asking him to remove a particular post that's over the line, and then removing it if he doesn't, would be OK with me IF that were a clearly spelled-out moderation policy.

Just tossing him without transparent process is a stupid precedent to set. Now that we've got the Orwell quote here might as well add Niemoller:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

BG was an F. Never was a member (?) but they "grandfathered" him as an F because he was a frequent poster

When was the "F required to post to prevent spam" policy implemented, exactly one year ago? Or, that is, was Bob given an F exactly one year ago?

Tho this deal was somewhat tongue in cheek. Two people have ordered foam pads with the discount.

Its tempting. I have a penchant for accumulating foam matts of late. I blame Delmare, he started this.

Can I pay full price and have my 10% go towards a new MLIFE for BGRedux?

Ah come on: Bob is a bit irascible and does not suffer fools gladly. But I remember one interaction where I gave as good as I got, in terms of the reasons behind my position, and Bob did not get mean or petty or snarky in response. He asks that people justify their positions. If you write something off the cuff, or if he thinks that you're giving bad advice, he may call you out. But he really does contribute a lot of good information here. He has a ton of experience and shares it in valuable ways. The forum is poorer without him. I think of him as lemon zest on the plain salad of BPL.

(Somewhere, Bob is muttering, 'Jeff, you never gave as good as you got from me'…and he may be right.)

to quote The Wizard of ID:

gold

Or as it relates to the internet: Whoever owns the web site has the final say.

In honor of BG:

"That includes the unsensored views of BG, Ken, Eric, etc.."

Uncensored

I'd rather get rid of the people who get so upset w/ Bob. Defending your opinions, or owning up to mistakes/lack of knowledge is key to self improvement. +1 on BG.

bob is one of the posters here that consistently post useful and well thought out info. his remarks about grammar and content serve us well and help many of us remember to think before we post. because of this we end up with potentially fewer posts that are of higher value. a good thing. the value of my membership is less without him.

Perhaps everyone is too enraged by what's happened to notice, but all that was banned was a user account/email account. Bob can, uhh, just make another account. He can still post content from has wealth of knowledge and/or snarky remarks. Bob, since you're reading this, here's a hint:sdfsssssssss

Come on! They're are soo mini typos grammatical and errs to call out!Bob.

Ditto. He comments on so many post, he really helps keep things here fresh and creates an atmosphere that motivated others to participate. I think without him, BPL will be surprised at how the forums might stagnate and how that will discourage participation. Hell, it's only been a day, and I'm already thinking of doing work instead of looking for places to throw in my 2cents on topics I know very little about.

when he comes back from hike and posts something, can we go back to hating him?

If I was in charge of this site and wanted its membership to grow – I would have banned B.G. a long time ago. For those of us who've been on the site for a while, he's the old curmudgeon who's just one of the group. To a new member, he's the jerk who just made a rude comment for no real reason. Why would someone stick around for that.

Fortunately, I'm not in charge of this site and I pay zero attention to his posts anyway. There's a lot bigger problems with BPL than B.G. so bring him back if it makes everyone happy.

Ryan
