Do you also have a "keep Bob captive" coupon ?
That would give you a 100% BPL market penetration.

PostedJun 16, 2015 at 5:15 pm

Apparently Bob has been sent to the naughty corner till he sees the error of his ways.
Odd for someone that knows a lot about GPS's.
I propose a 5% discount for the keep Bob Captive coupon.
(a 5% penalty rate for bad attitude)

I guess I missed some fireworks? Dang.
But I like Bob. He contributes a ton to BPL and I hope he is back soon.

+1 to that naughty over-poster, BG!

I finally renewed my 4th or 5th annual subscription because I missed the community that seems to be all that's left of bpl. That includes the unsensored views of BG, Ken, Eric, etc..
Too bad to see Ryan Jordan sanitizing his 'click-factory' of the forum (let's not overlook the forums real value to RJ; clicks=internet cred=advertising $), especially when viewed in the context that he contributes near nothing to the forum and enables the 'poor' moderation that all seem to agree could be improved.

P.S. Glad I taught myself to packraft and still think Hiking in Finland is a way better aggregater of relevant stories than the BPL 'news digest';)

PPS. I love my Alphamid, bought new!

Nice gesture David. I would love to have the honorable, irascible –B.G.– as guest of honor at the next G.G.G. standing side by side with R.J. Then maybe a cage match. I read Bob's posts before they were deleted. He was being honest as usual. Correct as usual. Abrasive as usual. I didn't see a problem with him. If you're going to hand him ammo, well…

I put in the code "free Boob" but order was denied. I suppose because I misspelled Bob. Bob, please forgive me if you're reading this :-)

"That includes the unsensored views of BG, Ken, Eric"
Yes, sometime those guys don't make any sense to me either.

Added bold and quotation marks to make it a bit more obvious that I was indeed doing a Bob stand-in .

Favorite Bob Gross quote: "Please cite your sources."

I use that one a lot.

"Odd for someone that knows a lot about GPS's."

IHOBG, might I suggest you hire an editor….

"Wait, what happened to B.G.?"

Someone took umbrage at Bob's posts , deleted those posts, and locked him out of his account.

As of yet, no one has owned up to the deed, nor communicated with Bob about censure.

edit: Of course discussion Could be taking place, but back channel communications (to which I am not privy) say this is not the case.

I heard BG upset JD. JDs mother called RJs mother. RJs mother called RJ. RJ neve talked to Bob. Bob had his account suspended, but no one is sure how.

Did this happen on a particular thread? I bet it would be fun to try to fill in the blanks in the conversation.

Honestly, these past couple of weeks I had been thinking to myself that Bob seemed to be making more complimentary and upbeat posts, and now this?

Free –B.G.– !!!

Update, see above:

In an email from Bob, he indicated that he was never contacted by Ryan J. regarding the deleted posts or the closure of his account.

edit: corrected usage, 'cause I know he is reading ….

Oh man that's a waste. B*b G*ross was an awesome contributor to the BPL forums. I loved his interactions.

Pass on my commiserations to him please, Greg.

Certainly this will be an unpopular view, but these forums are built on doing things outside the norm.

If the rumors about Bob are true, I think it is a welcome action and is on par with other internet forums. It's clear to me that Bob has contributed positively in the past – and understatement I'm sure. However, I am a paying member and in my short (8 mo.) time here the vast majority of Bob's posts that I've read are pedantic, curt, and thread-derailing. Healthy discussion often turns into immature diatribes due to Bob's incessant comments about spelling and grammar, etc. I suppose these would be fine in moderation, but Bob tends to habitually make unnecessary public comments that don't appear to be tongue in cheek to the uninitiated and could really be made via PM instead of embarrassing the 'offender'.

Again, if he was temporarily banned/locked, it's refreshing from my point of view. Live and learn, Bob.

Bob is/was my favorite BPL persona. There is too much drama on BPL these days. Seems everything is deteriorating fast.

"Oh man, if I buy a foam pad will it bring Bob back?"

Do good by doing well. Can't get better.

I always saw Bob as the "Dr House" of BPL. Abrasive…sure….but I always kind of found it funny and entertaining.
His advice here has been invaluable to me. Many of my gear choices and trips were influenced by him. I really hope he's released from the penalty box soon.

In another hobby pursuit of mine, there is a guy with a personality somewhat similar to that of –B.G.– that (or "whom", if BG is reading, lol) some of us jokingly called "Mr. Sunshine" or "The Fun Vacuum".

But when you got to know him personally he was actually a very nice guy, and even had a sense of humor. I think BG is probably like that, and as some have mentioned before, I'd actually like to hike with the guy sometime.

I always think of Bob as the "BG = NO BS" guy — if you make a factual error, or if you're just gonna make something up and blow it out your @$$, he's gonna call you on it. He did it to me a couple of times, and guess what? … He was right!

For his GPS expertise alone, he will be sorely missed. I hope he's back soon. This is all so silly.
