6 months away now. Don't forget to leave space in your schedule to attend. Post your thoughts and ideas here.

I'm checking regularly on this so I don't miss out on signing up. Should I be looking here or will you be starting another thread? Thank you so much for taking this on again, Ken!

Obviously the date is Presidents Weekend Any general idea about location? Southern, mid or northern Cali? Oregon? Other thoughts yet?

Just added GGG to my calendar, stumbled across my annual reminder to treat hiking clothes with permethrin. We could set up a bucket with permethrin solution near a clothesline. People could dunk their clothes, and hang them to dry, while enjoying the rest of GGG. Could be well off to one side for people who don't want to be around the smell and/or chemicals. Might not work depending on location, weather, and unknown unknowns. — Rex

Yes, Henry Coe. It's easy. It will be a different drive down for me this time. Winter OR is early in 2016, Jan 7-10th So Friday 22nd of January though Sunday 24th, 2016 I'm in the middle of moving and restarting life. Will update more thoroughly in a few weeks.

Thanks, Ken. Chico is a nice place from what I've seen. Enjoy your new surroundings!

More detailed analysis of the pending El Nino winter: http://www.mercurynews.com/drought/ci_28941058/el-nino-when-will-it-start-raining-california

An analysis of the five winters back to 1950 in which strong El Niño conditions similar to this year have occurred shows … the bulk of the rain — the real downpours with high risk of floods and mud slides — have occurred in January and February.

In the wettest, 1997-98, the rainfall was double the average, at 47.22, with relentless rainfall in January and February that soaked the entire region and caused flooding and mud slides.

Could be sunny. We've had it all. Thanks for being positive Rex. If it rains it's on you. ;p

Everybody just bring rain jackets, rain pants, rain mitts, and bomber shelters and we will get no rain at all. Has anyone considered doing a massive tarp city for the GGG? Not a lot of trees, but on group trips in dense forests a couple of tarps pitched high can provide room for 10+ people to sit and cook/eat.

Has anyone considered doing a massive tarp city for the GGG? Yes. I'll be watching the forecast, as will David.

"Not a lot of trees, but on group trips in dense forests a couple of tarps pitched high can provide room for 10+ people to sit and cook/eat." I've got a nice 12×12 cuben tarp….

I was supposed to go to this last year but had life get in the way. I am trying to gather info from these posts so far it is; When: January 22nd-24th 2016 Where: Henry W Coe State Park Fees?? The one I signed up for but did not attend in 2014 was $15 I think. People that are flying in, Is anyone carpooling? Seems like a waste to rent a car by ones self and then have it sit all weekend. I did this during a mountaineering trip in Colorado last year. It was a real waste of a few hundred dollars as the car just sat at a hostel the whole week.

This group has been amazing with its hospitality Heath. I'll guess that getting a ride won't prove too difficult.

I have to clear it with the wife but round trip airfare is under $200 for me so shouldn't be a big deal. Would love to catch a ride for sure if there are amicable parties that don't mind a stop over at the San Jose airport on Friday.

Has there been a final decision on the number of attendees? I would like to attend, but I don't want to bump a regular.

All are welcome. I just reserved the two group spots. G4 and G5 for Friday and Saturday nights.

If I go I'll be driving from the Seattle area if anyone wants a ride. I could take at least two others, three if i put the roof rack back on.

Doug can I catch a ride with you? Ken, I'm in. Let me know how much I owe.

PostedOct 13, 2015 at 8:45 am

"i don't think anyone would want to ride on the roof rack" Jerry, don't be silly. I have a Yakima roof top carrier attached to the roof rack. They'd ride in that. Ian, no problem.
