Starting a new thread per Ryan. Recent Forum Topics takes a long time to load, as Dan said, 7-10 seconds most times for me. It’s been like this since the new site came online. We were told that the database just had to re-populate or some such but the long load time has never been resolved. It happens to me more times than not, much more. And it only seems to happen to Recent Forum Topics.

Recent Forum Topics is incredibly slow to load

Thanks for starting this thread. I’ll speak to our devs and see if they can provide some further instructions to you guys for helping us with this.
Unfortunately, it’s back to 10+ seconds for me today. I hope this is helpful, I’m not trying to be a whiner here.
same here
I just ran a timer. I had Recent open but hadn’t looked at it in about 45 minutes, so wanted to refresh the list. 12 seconds from click to presentation.
Two of the car forums I frequent, one had this issue while the other was screaming fast. The slow forum finally threw in the towel and got with the fast forum Admin to take over their forum and they redid their forum. Both are now screaming fast. Click on “show unread posts” and it’s about a second response time.
When I admined a Drum building forum, we had some issues and found out that the base software did NOT have an index to support all of their canned-queries. namely “Show unread posts” and “Show recent posts” NEITHER had a product supplied index to support the query! Add in the index and ZOWIE are we fast.
Database (query) indexing. Â A skill, an art, a requirement.
Recent Forum Topics is just taking me off-trail now. Maybe better luck tomorrow.
Open a new tab, type in “back” and then look at the history to see if you can see backpackinglight.com/recent-forum-topics/ If you can see it click on it and it takes you there in 1 second. It works for me all the time using a Chrome Book.

.
^ nice tip. Works on Firefox.  Seems to even present the current list.
Copy this link and put it into your “favorites” for future access:

That’s an interesting workaround, but probably not one that will make the admins very happy. Â :-)
That’s how I always get here but it has no effect on speed
That doesn’t work. That has been my bookmarked link for years and it still can be slow to load. My 2 cents.
Today it’s really messed up
10+ seconds to load and an “Ooops” message about 50% of the time.
Yeah, still doing the background DB work to present the list. But it does save a few clicks. I’d not bothered to change my bookmark, but did.  Still took 11 seconds to load.
No wonder it’s slow to load….20,000 active members trying to access
It is really slow for me now, but really fast to the Page not Found page. Same old same old. right now.
Something changed for me today. It is loading much faster.
