Jan 30, 2017 at 11:37 am #3447800One logistical bit: While a number of airlines fly to KEF, depending on where you’re starting, Wow Airlines is likely to be cheapest. If you haven’t used a European discount airline and think that a discount airline means Southwest, you have a better trip if you set your expectation a lot lower. I’m always on IcelandAir because they have a direct to Anchorage, but I’ve booked family on Wow. It works. The plane gets there. But if you go in with the assumption that it’ll be a very budget operation and that you’ll be nickeled-and-dimes on everything, they won’t disappoint.
Another: Manfred and his 13-year-old daughter (“FATHER-DAUGHTER ADVENTURE”) used public transit to get to the start, for her to return midway and for him to return from the end of the trail. Not sure if he has those details in his BPL trip report, but, being Manfred, I’m sure they’re in a spreadsheet somewhere.

Jan 30, 2017 at 6:00 pm #3447850LAUGAVEGUR TRAIL, ICELAND – lots of info out there, very easy to get to via public transportation.
Be sure to bring a GPS, as depending on the time of year there can be lots of white outs and trails take off everywhere. The day before I started, 30 people had to be rescued (day hikers) due to white out conditions. Basically, the upper end of the trail has no trees and there are occasional cairns but do not count on it.
Have fun
Jan 30, 2017 at 7:32 pm #3447875this book is useful. I haven’t gone yet, but intend to sometime over the next few years.
Decision for you: huts or no huts? I haven’t made up my mind.
Jan 31, 2017 at 9:20 am #3447972Thanks again everyone for help and info. I am planning on camping, no huts. Bivy and tarp. Lots of planning, reading and research to do. Still have time as i am planning for late summer 2018. Thanks again!
