What makes you think it is titanium, Dan? It could easily be aluminum, stainless steel, or maybe even polished unobtainium.

You can’t say the seller doesn’t respond to the market.  I think the listing is now on it’s third revision. Maybe that’s why there is the hand made lead time (a means of allowing for any additional changes?).

Clearer for sure but as the story changes one has to wonder what you would ultimately end up with in the mail.

I still want to know what  “T3 stents” are even  if they/it have been removed from the listing.

I’m not purposely trying to hurt the sellers business.  I order from Aliexpress regularly and for the most part get what I expect even if the items description sometimes requires a creative english-to-english translation.  If I had some spare change I might even make a purchase from them just out of curiosity.

I don’t advocate blatant product knockoffs.  And, I think Trail Designs will continue just fine.  I’ve have two of their cone systems and would probably buy another if they come up with something new that caught my attention.

I’ve got four TD systems and have always found TD good to do business with.

Quite a lot of UK backpackers gravitate towards Ali stuff (I bought some down boots myself and was pleasantly surprised)…but a lot of it also gets quickly sold on.

Well, there is BRAND loyalty and then there is QUALITY loyalty.

EX: I have purchased Bushnell’s Elite line of rifle scopes and laser rangefinder binoculars for hunting. BUT they were made in Japan to Bushnell’s design. Japanese high end optical quality is as good as anything coming out of Europe, Schmidt & Bender included. (Refer to MARCH scopes.)

Now Bushnell has a new line of “budget” priced scooped made in China which I would never purchase.

We vote with our dollars and the market responds. We also inform new backpackers of intellectual theft like this and hope they make the correct decisions. Until Chinese companies play by international rules I will try my very best to NOT buy Chinese made goods.

Sorry for offending you Gary, just an educated guess and the add page says so.

What makes you think it is titanium,
Just that the detailed product listing says so.

Roger,

I have a 2 part cone I made out of 3.5 mil SS.  I have used it with esbit on most of my backpacking trips.  I use it with a 850 ml MSR Ti kettle and it holds up fine nearly full.  With thin structures, buckling onset is normally the design criteria so thickness will dominate, but SS has almost twice the modulus of Ti so it allows some reduction in thickness at equal performance.  SS shim stock is readily available and far cheaper than Ti foil.

Hi Clifford

Fair enough. I was not sure.
And yes, SS is cheaper than Ti!

Thanks for the feedback.

Full disclosure, yeah I sell windscreens

For the last 3 years or so, we have offered 302/304 full hard Stainless Steel windscreens as a material option.  Or traditional Titanium version are 0.005″ thick.  Stainless is the poor man’s titanium.

0.003″ for mugs (Snow Leopard Series)

0.004″ for pots (Bobcat Series)

Hi Jon

I must confess I had not really explored your web site in the past. Most remiss of me. You have some nice stuff.

Dan

That’s a very tall cone. Does anyone else make one that tall?
I ask because I do not know.

I am left to wonder about an inverted canister winter stove V4 using a cone and ‘stakes’ instead of pot support wires as in V3. Hum ………

The photo is distorted , that is why all the bits appear taller than they are.

Should probably look like this :

Ah yes – and the rest of the gear was equally distorted in the original.
Perhaps someone just bungled the photo dimensions in the HTML? Possible.

Hey Dan, according to Trail Designs patent ,anyone knowingly importing a cone which contravines their patent will be hunted down and shot on sight 😁😉

I kinda love that lid. Just sayin’

The concentric circles in the bottom of the pot look interesting. I think I’m going to like that pot.

If they really are concentric grooves, they are going to make cleaning the inside of the pot a shade difficult – especially if there is any burning. Not my preferred design by any means.

a reflection of the polished bottom.
You have lost me there Franco. I have no idea what that means. How?

Maybe it easier if I rephrase it as ” those grooves may not be as deep as they look” .
