My 14 year old son has outgrown his favorite hiking pants. They were boy’s athletic pants from Target in a woven nylon (maybe polyester?) with a full length thin mesh liner and an elastic waist. The pants were very breathable using the “blow through it” test. He doesn’t like knit athletic track pants because they tend to be heavy, dry slowly and stuff gets stuck in them.
I’m having trouble finding anything like that in men’s pants in the local big box stores (Target, Walmart) or local athletic stores or on Amazon. He doesn’t want REI style Columbia/Kuhl/REI/etc. “outdoor” pants with cargo pockets.
He hikes and backpacks hundreds of miles a year with me. He’s a capable hiker (he did the JMT as a 12 year old) and worth spending money on but I’m not buying him a pair of Railriders so he can grow out of them next spring. Plus, he’d look like a dork in matching khaki pants with his dad. :)
Any ideas?
