Our parks could use some more funding. This weekend I spoke with NPS trail workers on Gray Wolf Pass trail in Olympic National Park. Even with exemptions to use chain saws, they cannot come close to keeping up with trail maintenance in the Park each year. And they were all disheartened that their budget keeps getting cut each year. Last year on the Gray Wolf Pass trail, there were over 70 downed trees along the trail, many more on the South side of the pass. In the popular Elwha river area of the Park, each year there are problems with the road being washed out closed, shutting down access to several popular trailheads and a popular hot spring. This year, the road will likely be closed to vehicle traffic for most of the hiking season.

A widespread sad state of affairs. Was excited to see a C.C.C. work party in the Trinities last week. So much work. Would be great to see a return of regular funding.
