Hi all. Not sure if this is the best forum for posting this information — admins feel free to reassign if not — but I wanted to let you know that DSM, the company that purchased Cuben Tech and the original makers of Cuben fiber, is selling the Dyneema business to a company called Avient –>

As someone who has been interacting with DSM for some time I have to hope this is ultimately a good thing because the last couple of years have been a nightmare.  Here’s hoping that new management will result in higher quality and stable prices, and spur on competition so that we all ultimately benefit.

Very interesting! Also interesting that I just got an email notification from a major fabric vendor that DCF prices are finally going up as folks have speculated…weird timing.

Hopefully they will have new capital and drive  to innovate shelter fabrics and production. We’ve all been using  the same basic couple of fabrics for 15+yrs.  I’ve contacted them on possible improvements that could possibly yeild one .6-.7 weight fabic that potentially could replace the .5, .67 and .8 for most all shelters.   That could speed production (fewer SKUs to produce)  and hold costs. Fingers Crossed.

Scaling up production to allow for automation could potentially bring down the cost and allow for innovations like HB (high bias) versions to come to market. More fingers crossed.

See this previous thread for more details.

So, are they going to rename the fabric yet again?  I’ve only just barely started to break the habit of calling it Cuben Fiber in favor of DCF.
