Specific colors aside (though I'm glad you're settling on something muted), I always look for light colored backpacks — I don't want to hasten the melting of my chocolate in a black (or dark colored) backpack. If I had the money for a winter-exclusive backpack, I might feel differently but that's not a reality.

Stock Grey, Coyote Brown and Olive or Fottest Green as standard colors. Charge a 10% service charge ( about $40) for special order colors like black, orange ,blue, camo etc.

If someone has $400+ to spend on a pack, then the $40 to get it in the color they want is reasonable,IF you do a good job.explaining WHY the service charge is needed ( ie inventory and order optuon costs). The packs would be considered special order an non returnable. And,limit the number of color choices so at $40 extra, its still profitable.

Everybody wins. You maintain your margins and tbey get a color they really like.

The reason why color choice is a good idea ,especially amoungst recreational backpackers, is unlike shelters, a pack is WORN. I think asthetics mean more with packs than most pack makers are aware. Its more like a peice of clothing to many rather than a mere tool.

A pack can be as solid as a mule..but most folks preffer to ride a handsome horse…lol.

Good luck ,no matter what you decide Kevin, you folks make nice gear..

I like colors that blend in so no one can see me.

This back was custom done for my in the colors I chose. I just hope that it doesn't blend in too much and I can't find it one day.

Yellow, red, orange, teal, bordeaux, light gray, lighter blues.

No dark green, brown or black, please.

The typical "outdoor" colors (think "REI") look bad in life and especially on pictures. Essentially, the stuff looks dirty before it really is.

In desert environments darker tones are bad in the sun, fade and attract insects.

Here's what I think when I see drab colors:

P.S. I realize that I am in a minority :) I do like photography though.

I liked the hunter green cuben fiber pack color for my Unaweep 4800. I'm glad I snagged one before you discontinued it, but any earth tone would work. Phillip Werner of SectionHiker.com bought one after trying one out for you. He had a good point about the blaze orange talon. I did some hiking in the fall during hunting season and kept running into hunters. I had my orange down jacket stuffed between the pack back and talon so some orange was visible, but a blaze orange talon is a better idea.
