I can't find whether Mr. Abela's cut-down Jetboil pots hold the lid on, or whether they fall off.

I may get crazy w/mine and cut it down, and was wondering about this….

Thanks to John or anyone else who can help!

I cut that pot for John. The lid no longer stays on as the rolled edge increased the diameter some. Too loose without.

Could you use a bead roller tool to put a new rolled edge at the custom height?

Yes Bob. Someone else here works in metal fabrication and did just that. I did not have that technology available to me.

I was thinking about this thread and handling and working with CP grade 2 Titanium seems similar to aluminum. People roll the edges on the aluminum bottles so I thought that I would try it on a piece of drawn titanium. I annealed the edge twice 1) at the start and 2) when I had the flange bent 45 degrees relative to the side of the cylinder (the lip height is about 0.2"). BTW, I used a pliers with a smooth jaw to flare the lip out. Just make small bends and work your away around the lip. After I reached the 45 degree angle I tapped the flange over center. When it was bent back about 135 degrees, I placed it over a steel cylinder and tapped it flush to the body. I buffed it up to take a clean picture. This took me less than 15 minutes. Best wishes.

rolled

It took another 10 minutes to do a double roll, thickening the lip.

While that is a nice low tech result. The rolled edge from the factory will let the lid snap on and be watertight. No so here,IMO.

Abela here…

I just saw this post.

Ken addressed your answer.

Neat what Jon did to roll the edges on his.

I have now passed along my cut down Jetboil to somebody and am now fully in love with the MiniMo and it is about all I use these days. A bit heavier, a bit larger, but sometimes love looks beyond such things :)
