Greetings all,

I have been experimenting with a new Esbit stove and it is in the pre-ALPHA stage of tested. A limited number of samples have been distributed and the results look pretty good so far. I have decided to expand the testing and I am making a special offer to people who visit the backpackinglight site.

Focus Fire 14

The stove is called the Focus Fire 14 stove and it is designed to burn Esbit efficiently. The stove gets its name from the way the flame is focused to the center and that it was designed for the 14 grams Esbit tablet. In calm conditions, I can heat up 4 cups of 70 F water to about 200 F. A few people have been using the 7 gram tablets, though I have done very little testing with that size. The stove was designed for people who want to boil 1-2 cups of water.

The cost of the stove will be $12.50 and will be shipped in a regular envelope. The stove is made of 302 Stainless Steel and is 0.003” thick. The baseplate is aluminum and the whole system weighs 5 grams. As the kit is DIY assembly, you will have to de-burr the edged and fold the stove yourself. You will need to provide a pot stand and the height should be 1.8” to 2 ¼” tall. Attached is a YouTube video showing you how to assemble the stove. To purchase the stove, follow this link to my website.

Thank You.

Very interesting, Jon. So, I take it that the idea behind this stove is high efficiency, yes? But I presume balanced. For example, the FF14 would heat water faster than your Epicurean stove (in simmer mode) but slower than just an open ESBIT burner, yes?

How would the burn on a FF14 compare to the burn, in non-simmer mode, of the Epicurean?

I tried 3 times to buy one but the "Flat Cat Gear" software is not very user friendly or intuitive for me. I wish the rest of you better luck than I had.
Best,

@Carl, there is a little gold paypal “buy” button on the bottom of the page that takes you to paypal… is that what you were trying and having problems with??

@Jon
,

Forgot about this until just now… we were yapping about carbon felt being used as a ground protector to protect the Redwood undergrowth. Here are the two videos I have showing how I have gone about that.

coffee time ~39 seconds into video

tea time ~1:25 into seconds into video
