Hi Dan. I found that there is some serious room in the center height to glean. The suspension straps vary in length from 1" to 4" and I am sure the Hilleberg have a real good reason for doing his. Perhaps there is some sagging in certain weather which necessitates this air space.
I took all the straps and semi permanently sewed them shorter (take out the stitches and they are factory length again)
I found that by dong this along with the other changes, the tub of the inner tent sits with a better rectangular form than that of the factory settings.
When I lifted the ends of the hoop by 2" to 3" inches it only got better.
So… it works for me. If you remove the inner tent and just use the fly and footprint ground cloth, there is a small gap from ground to tent edge. Similar to a tarp tent, but that’s a good thing I think.

Just a side note: I'm having a horrible time uploading multiple photos of this experiment. Can anyone walk me through it?

Thanks for the info John. I'm short, so don't really have a problem with the headroom, but the info is good to know.

By the way, have you done any of the weight savings modifications to your Akto? You can easily get it under 3 lbs with a few little tricks.

Cheers
Dan

The distance between the inner and outer in the Akto is not an oversight or a design flow, it's deliberate. It just happens to be the ideal dead air space to reduce condensation and at the same time keep the interior warmer.
You have just ruined one of Bo Hilleberg best design. I hope that you feel proud of yourself.

The only saving grace you have now is to send me the tent, forget that you ever owned one and I will exorcise it and bring it back to the right side (or the left, depending on the view)

Nice try, Franco, but John wrote above:

"I took all the straps and semi permanently sewed them shorter (take out the stitches and they are factory length again)".

Ben,
I did read that. I knew that I was reading a post from John not from you. But thank you for ruining my logical and well constructed argument that should have shamed John into sending me the Akto. My comments about tent design are correct, never mind the rest.
BTW, Mr Snip Snip, have you defaced any more tents since the Sierra and the Rainbow ?….

Touchy, moi ?
You should know by now that I have broad shoulders (mostly cosmetic, I use pads) and no you cannot have a picture of them.
For the first time this year I posted something vaguely intelligent and you just poo- pooed my fake wisdom by revealing my uncanny and devious plot. I will not respond to any of your posts till the next time.

"Seriously, I don't think for a minute that the Rainbow is the only shelter people should consider, there will be other Tarptents coming out."

Hi Dario

I was about to purchase either a Contrail or a Rainbow – is there something I should wait for?

(and I have to say I like the look, and weight, of the GG cuben shelter …)

New Tarptents ?

That comment had a subtle ironic subtext…, I really need to hydrate my dry sense of humor.

I am not aware of any new Tarptent coming up within the next few months, but I would expect something towards the end of this year.

John, I am starting to think that you don't want your Akto brought back to life. Never mind, you can always use the TT.
Hey Ben, is it true that you are giving away your Pod ?

Well…I'm glad that you are "starting to think" as I have stopped such foolishness years ago. (thinking, that is)

Cheers
