And Matthew has a spare Garcia canister.
Mar 14, 2012 at 3:43 pm #1853849Oh my bad, just saw the march 11th on your first post. I am heading out of shelter cove with a few friends on the 20th-24th, hopefully the coast area won't be bombarded with spring breakers.
Mar 14, 2012 at 3:59 pm #1853862Probably will be. I'm headed south on the 24th.
Mar 14, 2012 at 4:09 pm #1853869Sit down in the wrong spot around here and you can walk away five minutes later carrying a dozen or more ticks.
Grass near the coast can be especially infested. Will we be camping in a grassy area?
Since I only own tarps, I was wondering if it would be prudent to get some spray permithrin to treat my ground sheet and/or bug net.
What precautions will anyone be taking regarding ticks?Mar 14, 2012 at 4:23 pm #1853881Permethrin is your friend. We saw none last year. We will be in a lot of grass.
Mar 14, 2012 at 4:26 pm #1853885TICKS—Long sleeves, long pants and sleep in a zippered enclosure. Gaiters would help too. Chemical free for me.
Mar 14, 2012 at 7:54 pm #1853971Eric,
My Garcia 812 weighs 2lbs, 12.5oz with the original liner bag and zip tie in it. The figure you saw might be for a Garcia with the nylon carry bag for backpack attachment although I can't imagine that weighs more than 16oz on it's own.
Mar 14, 2012 at 8:23 pm #1853980Eric. Check your e mail.
Mar 14, 2012 at 9:47 pm #1854018We'll be wet I bet.

Friday NightMostly cloudy with a chance of rain. Low of 41F. Winds less than 5 mph. Chance of rain 50% with rainfall amounts near 0.3 in. possible.
SaturdayMostly cloudy with a chance of rain. High of 46F. Winds less than 5 mph. Chance of rain 50% with rainfall amounts near 0.2 in. possible.
Saturday NightPartly cloudy with a chance of rain. Low of 39F. Winds less than 5 mph.
Forecast for Shelter Cove
Not windy is a huge plus! Forecast is bad enough to keep the hoards away, hopefully.
If you go to Wunderground.com Put in Shelter Cove, CA and then use the station select to choose RAWS Cooskie Mountain. This location mirrors our camp location for Saturday night.
Mar 14, 2012 at 10:13 pm #1854033This just means I will probably bring the bivy and will try out the hammock another time. I might also bring an R1 in addition to my synthetic puffy just in case my sleeping bag loses too much loft.
Mar 15, 2012 at 4:50 pm #1854435Umbrella on my gear list for sure with a garbage bag inside the pack. I will probably bring a better rain worthy shelter. Beach backpacking is a work out!

Could look like this
Or this
There are deluxe accommodations
And this poor creature is no longer around, P U!Mar 15, 2012 at 7:55 pm #18545053 and-a-half walls is pretty swank. If we find some fresher stuff and an empty keg we might pull off the cioppino this trip.
Mar 15, 2012 at 8:14 pm #1854511I'll pack some Old Bay
Mar 16, 2012 at 4:36 pm #1854913One week from today. Everyone ready? Estimated time of arrival at A.W. Way?
I'm stoked. I got my sleeping bag back from WM today. Have things pretty much packed. Expect to see Jay around dinner time there along with Eric. Matthew and crew?
Mar 16, 2012 at 4:47 pm #1854919I haven't heard from Casey but I presume that we will leave shortly after one since Kat can't leave Santa Cruz earlier than eleven. We will probably arrive with darkness and in time for a late supper.
Mar 18, 2012 at 10:33 am #1855527Wow! It is Damn cold up on the ridge this morning. 31, but feels like 23 with the 10mph wind. That's Fahrenheit.
Mar 18, 2012 at 1:44 pm #1855610Now they are saying more wind, but no rain for Saturday and Sunday. Complete turn around from this morning. I guess we'll just wait and see what the week brings.
Mar 18, 2012 at 4:08 pm #1855662Que sera sera.
I will have an easier time with my current setup in wind or rain than both simultaneously.
Anxiously awaiting this trip and packing on extra fat just in case we get snowed in;)Mar 18, 2012 at 9:20 pm #1855772Crap! I can't fit everything in my Ohm. Next pack up in size I have available is my 7.5lb Gregory. Well my down won't be compressed.
Mar 18, 2012 at 9:23 pm #1855775Sweet. You can carry my bear can. And my sleeping bag, clothes and cook gear. I'm bringing a daypack.
Mar 18, 2012 at 9:24 pm #1855779There is room. I'll carry it downhill. You can carry it uphill. Fair? Or I could pack in Kat. and her gear in it too.
Mar 18, 2012 at 9:29 pm #1855784Sounds good to me!
Mar 18, 2012 at 9:30 pm #1855786The Kat Karrier would be impressive.

Carrying Kat's not that bad, she's rather small. But that chip attached to her shoulder …. man, there's some serious weight there!
