I bought a new house. So I'll be broke for awhile. The good news is I'm closer than ever to Mt. Baker and the Cascade's for some amazing hiking and outings. I think that's a pretty awesome present indeed.
How fun. New gear and all. Just need time to get out and use it.
Happy Holidays everyone! Thanks for sharing.
I got myself some new blast food bags from Zpacks. Waiting on the new neoair to come out next month.
Doug, glad to hear your dog is doing well.
I only got a single present this year as it was kind of pricey. But my family all went in and got me my first real winter bag. A overfilled WM Kodiak picked up from Joshua on Gear Swap at a great price. It arrived today and it is NICE! Taking it out this weekend for some snow camping.
Because I like to pick out my own gear my favorite gifts to receive from others are consumables–wine, chocolate, tea and the like. But I usually buy at least one present for myself. This year I ordered a cuben TrailStar.
I’ve pondered the purchase of a new cuben shelter for MANY months now, and it took me a long time to finally decide on one. There are a lot of reviews and testimonials about the TrailStar on BPL and other places. One of my favorites can be found here .
Gear, tools ..close enough.
Santa brought me a new impact screw driver and drill set, to replace my old De Walt.

Hi,
I waited until the sales and got the below kit at a very handsome discount.
Rab Photon Belay Jacket.
Montane Fireball Smock.
Montane Prism trousers.
Montane Jackal hoody.
Cheers,
Stephen
Well, my wife gave me the best gift of all — time. Mostly had to use old gear. Went to some well known places, but did it mostly the hard way, cross country.

This view helped me decide where to go.

Okay, first order of business is to hike that. Which I later found out is an extinct volcano. The trip there and back for more water would take 2 days. Too bad there was no trail on the map.

Morning before summit. Watched 7 young Big Horns practice head-butting on a ridge while eating breakfast. When I got up to take a picture, they noticed me and stopped to see what I was up to.

My mostly old gear up on the summit.

Heading down slot canyon to Colorado River. I am now almost out of water.

Old gear kept me warm and comfy on the gravel shore of the Colorado. Night temps in the 20Fs, and I waited for the sun to warm up.

Plenty of water here.

Desert Dream (water in a canyon)

Nothing better than a soak in a hot spring after a chilly night!

No comments needed.

Last picture before battery went dead. Maybe I should have asked for a new camera or batteries instead of a kitchen pass?
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I sure did. No new gear needed.
Headed to Little Lakes Valley today to try out the new gear (HMG Windrider, Echo I tarp, Katabatic Chisos w/ 2 oz overfill) for New Years, but got hit by altitude sickness. I went to a lower campsite to recover and my friends just day hiked instead of backpacking in. Day hiking Sabrina tomorrow.

Waiting on my new Enlightened Equipment Revelation X Large Quilt from Tim. He says it will be going in the mail by the First!! Can't wait to see it!
Just set up my brand-new Lightheart Solong 6 in all Cuben! It is set up with doors on both sides and a nice extended awning on one side. It also has two vents up top. It is almost identical to the one the "Jolly Green Giant" got except for the addition of doors on both sides and the extended awning on mine. I think I have finally found my end all tent for a long time. The tough thing will be parting with my awesome silnylon Solong 6, that was my former favorite. We will see!
Gossamer Gear DIY G4. 12.5oz.
It's torture having to wait to put it to work.
