Hiking anyone??

I am willing to car pool (willing to drive ) if anyone is interested.

Rick, I had family business to take care of in Fresno prior to the hike. Now it is looking like I will not. Since most of us are south bay based we should look into carpooling. I have a Honda CRV that fits 4 very comfortably. As we get closer we all should discuss this and so forth.

For those that would carpool with me. After the hike I need to make a beeline back home. So even if the hike ends at 4pm I need to start my 7-8 hour drive back to the Santa Cruz area. Just thought I would let everyone know

That car pool might work. On the other hand, I am mildly interested in getting over there a little earlier to acclimatize, stretch my legs, and shoot some wildlife photos around Onion Valley. Roomy car. Or, you could just strap me onto the hood like a deer.

The advantage of having fairly lightweight packs is that you can cram more packs into the trunk of a car, so you can put more bodies into the car.

Maybe we could get a new summary of the trip itinerary so that we can plan gear better as time gets nearer. Also, I can supply a free color topo map of the route for anybody who doesn't have one, on request.

Within the last week I drove from Bishop to San Jose in six hours without exceeding any speed limits.

Would love a topo map too Bob. Rick, do you want to be the driver for the trip?? We all shoudl provide for gas, and if we go through Yosemite figure out a way to help pay for park entrance fees. My schedule is still tenuous due to me trying to escape my BS job and possibly interviewing with a Santa Cruz winery so my schedule coming home might be up in the air prior to a few days prior to leaving. If my interview is much later than the trip then I would be more than happy to join all of the other South Bay types coming home and there would be no rush…except for a few beers and a two burgers somewhere….oh and on the drive up…can we stop at the gas station on the corner of Hwy 120 and 395…I need my foodie fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pm's tomorrow with campground info!

Yes, I am willing to drive. Have an Annual Parks Pass, so Yosemite entrance is on me :-)

I know there is a train station in Santa Clara near the university. I can easily pick you up there. I don't have any extra beds, but if you want to come down on Friday your welcome to crash on the couch.

Tried to use my mapping software on my computer and it is not working. I cannot afford to upgrade until after the trip. Would anyone on this trip be able to print up a map of Center Basin to Junction Pass and the area from Junction Pass to The Potlhole for route finding???? I have a Tom Harrison map that I am bringing for the trails but lack something suitable for cross country

Yes, I can print one.

I think what you are looking for is something to run from the center of Center Basin, around Golden Bear Lake, all the way over to where we hit the Shepherd Pass Trail. I could do that small (8.5×11) or I could do that large (13×19). Do you need it with lat/long waypoints added, or not? I can't really imagine needing lat/long unless we had rainy or cloudy weather that day.

It would be nice if we could get a trip plan summarized, based on your expectations. I know there were some plan changes early in the game. I just want to be able to optimize my own food and gear.

Thanks Bob, I just sent you an email a few minutes ago and just saw this. 13X19 would be fine. I just want to see contour lines, elevation etc.

As for planning, what would you like summarized. You can email on the response or post here and we can get to work. 2 weeks prior to the hike, it is time to get things in gear. Let me know your concerns

That may have been a mistake on our part.

The 8.5×11 map weighs only 5 grams. The 13×19 map weighs a full 13 grams.

I really apologize for having to notify everyone at this stage, but I will no longer be able to attend thanks to some last-minute scheduling changes here at work. Is there still anyone on the "waiting list" that can get it all together?
