OK Today I got a call from the rangers at Coe. They will not allow us to drive to Manzanita Point.

They will allow us to take over the Coe Ranch campground if that is what we want. This would turn this into a car camping event. With the weather looking like it is this may not be a bad thing.

Let me know your thoughts on this…

Doug, gonna snow.

Just saw the weather report. Thurday night the storm rolls in, and it will start to diminish around noon. We will be having showers on Friday and into Friday night. Saturday looks like we will have great weather. Sunday is supposed to be wonderful.

Now all the doom and gloom talk needs to go away!

I'm the outsider so whatever y'all come up with, I'm game! Leetle beet of snow doesn't bother me a bit, in fact I'm looking forward to it!

Booo car camping! Aren't we all excited about backpacking in the snow? A little challenge is a good thing on a backpacking trip. It isn't going to be the distance or elevation on the hike to the point, but maybe it'll be the weather.

I am all for hiking in.

Though, question comes up….we are going to lose our supply vehicles and firewood. :)

Given that a fire would be a good thing to have to keep warm, what are our options?

All that I can think of is that people can volunteer to bring in a single log/Duraflame.

Basically spreading out the weight among a lot of people can mean we have a significant pile of real of fake logs.

What are the thoughts?

Me and my Plus 1 are hoping to be there early afternoon, Friday.

Tony – We'll be bringing a box of fake logs and will save one for Saturday night if it seems that we'll keep to the plan and head up to Manzanita Point. If not, I suppose we'll hope that we have a few logs left over for Saturday night at the Ranch camp grounds.

Ken – thanks for the updates. "Snow" camping sounds like fun but I'm wondering if it's going to be more like slush? We're up for the adventure either way, but if it's cold and gross out (rather than cold and snowy-fun) taking over the camp grounds Saturday night may not be such a bad thing.

Katharina – Thanks for the recent info about your hats you sent via PM… I'll set some cash aside for one (size large) if you're bringing extras!

Looking forward to meeting you folks and gettin' some gear on!

Guy's, we don't need to carry in wood, I'll just bring the chain saw, who wants to carry the gas and oil? Just kidding, really, just kidding.

I'm all for hiking in, but will be in camp on Friday. Best of both worlds. Beer me Cameron. Hey we won't need to keep it cold. Thanks Mother Nature!

We should definitely hike in. The car campground at Coe kind of sucks (on a sloping hill) and Manzanita point is a nice spot for a big group. A couple of inches of snow should not be a major problem for walking in.

I'll carry in one of Tony's fire logs.

Cameron, I'll drag one of your corny kegs in if I have to. I have a rusty rattle trap radio flyer wagon. Maybe we could wheel a couple in. I guess I'll be carrying canned goodness as back up brew.

Looking forward to BPL burning man / GGG 3.

See you all Saturday morning.

+1 hike in. it's just 3 miles
I would be happy to carry extra stuff it if it's needed

My new pack isn't quite big enough for my winter kit, so I'm bringing my Starlite. So I can carry in 2 logs! Maybe 3 if it's not too steep! I'll be slow, but I'll be warm!

I am game to hike in on Saturday. Sign me up to carry a log and/or keg.

Are these standard kegs? If so, they weigh over 150 pounds…

5 gallon cornelius kegs I think, right Cameron? Refurbished soda kegs. Still not light. Carrying them in might be wishful thinking, but it would be worth a try. We could "lighten" them as we walk.
