Sending paypal soon.
Figured you were Josh. I have moved you over to the other side. Glad you are coming!
I had mentioned that I might try to join, but so far haven't found any cheap enough flights from Portland to be able to do it.
Steven, if you can make it that would be cool. You know, it is an 8 hour drive from Portland. Some of our trips into the Eastern Sierra's take up to 8 hours to get there. It is being held on Sat-Sun but unoffically starting on Friday
Depends on what you mean by cheap enough, of course. If you fly Southwest in San Jose, leaving at 6:05 p.m. Thursday and returning Monday, it's $105 each way (plus taxes, of course). Or $110 leaving at 8 p.m. Thursday to Oakland. Only $138 each way for Friday to Sunday. FWIW.
Steven: keep an eye on Southwest. They may run a sale between now and then, which should be cheaper than ~$100/flight. Most of the time, though, their prices will gradually increase the longer you wait – though you might be able to snag a deal if you hold your breath and wait as long as possible.
I'm still a maybe, lots of scheduling to maneuver in the meantime.
Stephan, no problems. we have the space locked up for 80 and even if you are a last minute addition, you will be able to attend
Just over a month until the 3rd Annual BPL meet up in Henry Coe Park. There are still spots available for you to attend.
If you are planning on attending, and have not already, please paypal Ken T. $2 to help cover expenses. If you would like to attend, sign up! This is more about gear, networking and being a little social. Also we will be having a gear swap!
Where in the park? Manzanita Point?
"Manzanita Point?"
That's the current plan.
–B.G.–
Who? All nice people who are interested in lightweight and ultralight backpacking.
What? The largest non-commercial lightweight and ultralight inclined backpackers get together anywhere.
Gear, gear and more gear. With a swap meet so you can get some gear.
When? Feb 25-27th 2011
Where? Henry Coe State Park Fri. night at the Coe Ranch campground by the visitor center spots 11, 13, 14…
Sat. Hike to Manzanita Point group camp spots 9, 10
Why?!? To promote fellowship and to meet other "light minded" people to forge hiking partner alliances.
OK. To get out of the house in the middle of winter to go camping with a great bunch of people. And gear, beer.
We will have support vehicle capability to haul things to Manzanita Point.

For those that have not done so yet. There is a $2 registration fee due. You can Paypal to kenthompson2 at mac.com. This is the prefered way of to do this. I would prefer that we all Paypal me, Ken H. so that it takes away any awkward moments one might have during our weekend. Thanks.
Had a quick one-nighter last night at Coe.
In case anyone is on the fence on the BPL trip, here's a quick summary of what I noticed at the park. Gorgeous weather, great hiking temps. After the rain lately, there was a good amount of water in the streams. Frost in the valley this morning, despite an expected low of 42º. No poison ivy or problems with ticks (crossing my fingers on the former). Coe is a great venue.
Thanks for the information Stephan. That certainly helps!
Is anyone planning on heading down or through the Reno area that would be willing to hitch me a ride down? I am thinking of trying to make the trip, but at the current state of my affairs I do not have reliable transportation to make it down to the Bay area and would gladly pay my way with gas and or food money. I am in the process of riding my mountain bike to work as of right now. It seems like a fun trip by the previous years' pics and I'd like to meet some fellow Backpackers. Thanks.
John, what about taking the train…sorry
which trail?
You can through hike from Reno to SJ…kidding. I meant train, sorry
Oh TRAIN! I told myself that if i was going to take the trails down there, I'd better leave now. I hadn't thought of taking the train. I'll check on prices now. Thats a great idea, thanks.
one day shy of four weeks to go guys can t wait for an awesome trip
im starting to get excited just added ear plugs to my gear list in case the snoring
becomes an issue lol
hope to see everyone there
kevin
Bump
Kevin, looking forward to seeing you and everyone again. Going to miss your son – man he was a real trooper last year!
Ken, do you know about how many miles in the site is? Also are there any lakes or streams right near the site? And thanks again for organizing the trip!
Earplugs – mandatory on EVERY trip as you never know when you'll need 'em, whether for flapping from wind or a killer snorer. Speaking of which, when I was in the Boy Scouts, my father was one of the more active fathers and came on a bunch of our trips. Well on one winter cabin trip there was another father who had just been through a divorce – in part he claimed because of uncontrollable super loud sonic snoring. We didn't believe him until that night. After my father, who is normally very patient, asked me to shake him over and over again and nothing worked, at one point my father lost it and asked me to just smother him for everyone's sake. Every scoutmaster and scout in our troop was in a foul mood the next day except for the snorer, who was of course energetic and cheery.
Andrea and I will have our earplugs and promise not to attempt to smother anyone.
