Hi Dennis,
The canvas scales are considered micarta as well. I think maybe you meant what swayed me to canvas micarta vs. linen micarta?
Based on everything that I read, in terms of physical characteristics, the two are essentially the same. That being said, it was pure aesthetics that drove my decision. Canvas micarta looks like… canvas. The weave of the material is very thick and pronounced, and I just happened to like that texture. I don't think the scales are any grippier because of the weave though, as the scales are more or less polished smooth. However, I've never handled the linen micarta scaled version of the knife, so I can't give you a definite answer.
The linen micarta has a finer weave, and looks like linen, so the texture will be subtle when compared to canvas micarta. I've heard some people believe that linen micarta will take on a polished sheen finish better…something I wanted to avoid, b/c I wanted this knife to be "earthy toned" for aesthetic purposes.
G10 is also an option for this knife. G10 is layered fiberglass, and looks similar to plastic. I've heard people tote that g10 is impervious to water absorption and is stiffer.
Funny thing though, an equal amount of people believe the differences are all just hype and industry jargon. Mike Stewart of Bark River says he's heard it all in a forum posting (see link)

So yeah, sorry for the long winded post, but I did it because it looked good. Good luck!
