well, it's either this or snow camping, if it's on the ides of March ( 15th). Depending on carpooling and the ability of borrowing snowshoes, I think I'd go for snow camping. We'll see as it gets closer.

I will be out there on the 27TH-28TH. I have games on the 13TH and 20TH. Hunting Hollow to Coit Lake (9.3 miles) and maybe beyond.

Am still planning to go on the 12th – 14th – if anyone wants to join, we will be at hq around nine am.

I will probably be easy to find, with the Gossamer Gear poles and the Mariposa Plus.

Since there are two Coe dates on the table (Lori: 12-14, and Jay: 27-28), going to two different locations, it would be good if people could identify which trip they are talking about when they are in or out.

The staff person I spoke to (it was hard to get someone on the phone, I basically called every day for a week and a half) told me that for a larger group there can be a flat fee of $70 instead of the per person charge, and beyond 10 people this makes more sense if we are all going to camp in the same places. So there is a group of 8 of us from the Fresno/Madera/Chowchilla area who are carpooling into 2-3 cars to save money.

If there are enough people from other locations coming, we could meet in Morgan Hill and consolidate/carpool. The parking at the park headquarters is $8/night per car and they really appreciate carpoolers as they have limited spaces. Tho this early in season it should not fill up…. Backcountry camping fees have gone up to $8/night per person generally.

Time permitting, I would like to join in on the 27/28.

Someone please let all of us know if we need to get individual permits or are we doing the group site for a flat $70?

I am in Stockton, would like to experience a group hike/camp. I normally hike/camp alone in the Sierra's, or with only one family I go with 1-3 times a year.

I follow some of your past trips, would like to try the Coe 27-28 trip.

Couple (new area for me) questions:

– food containers? (bear can or one of those "critter bags")
– Start location? I see a group from Fresno area coming up.
– Other basic tips?

The Fresno group is coming on the 12th. In Coe, the critter bag would work fine, or a simple hanging setup.

Your main concern in Coe is poison oak and ticks, with wild pigs, rattlers and mountain lions being a distant second and third. Ticks are the hardest to avoid but easy enough to deal with. Rattlesnakes are pretty easy to avoid.

Hey, wild pigs! That is a multiple use item. Plus, they are ultralight since you don't have to carry them in.

They dig up the acorns underneath oak trees, and they make a mess.

They tear up the hills like hairy rototillers. Not sure I want to try to make a multi use item out of one, they are kind of dangerous if they want to be….

I didn't see any pigs last year, but saw plenty of wild turkeys and a few waterfowl.

Done some MTB in Coe but never had a chance to experience at a slow pace. Let's hope it doesn't rain.

Anyone from Santa Cruz area going? We could carpool.
