Got my jacket yesterday. I am really liking it. Fit is a little loose but when I put my Marmot mid-weight baselayer top and Montbell Thermawrap vest on under the jacket it fits pretty good. On my inaccurate non-digital food scale I got just a tad over 13 oz. for my size small.

I should be able to take it on a overnight this coming weekend.

BTW, does anyone know how many oz. of down is in this jacket?

Mine arrived today in perfect condition. I got the large with short arms. Sizing is generous; plenty of room in there for layering. Almost covers my hips (so I'm short). I specially asked for an inspection before packing, and all baffles are nicely filled. Can't wait to go winter camping next week!

I am jealous of you all that snagged one. I need a small and they are all out. If anyone doesn't like their size small send me a PM.

The replacement for my defective one arrived yesterday and is perfect. Amazing coat – so warm it is hard to try on for long indoors. Can't wait to take it out in the field. Amazing deal.

Funny thing on these… the tags all say the original asking price is $385. Don't know who was selling them originally, but they were upcharging like crazy.

Anyway. Great deal if they have your size left, and service was excellent on the replacement.

I just got mine–it was only available in red (medium), but it's a good red. As others have noted, the down wasn't evenly distributed in all the pockets (in my case the sleeve pockets), but more than that, it's interestingly clumpy, or sticky. If I reach in to break up the down clumps, to distribute them more evenly, the clumps don't seem to want break up and flow. The down also seems very fine, as if composed of lots of very tiny clusters.

Since the first mention on BPL of these jackets at discount goes back to 2007, it's possible that these have been stored for several years, possibly in compression.

But the bottom line is that it's a very warm, light feeling, well filled jacket with one of the best collars I've ever tried. So thanks to everyone participating in the various Fugu threads.

No additional information to add, other than a thanks to everyone for their sage-like commentary.

This is my first UL down coat, and I got mine in green (XL.)
I am not able to go ultralight in diet – I love sausages, cheese, and eschew power bars whenever possible, so no cutting weight there! :)

Being able to lighten gear, particularly with so wonderful a product as this jacket, makes me feel like part of your team.

Thanks.

Just got my red medium….it seemed lost in transit between USPS and my work earlier in the week due to MLK holiday but I finally got it in my hands and it's nice. The red is OK, would of preferred a darker color but for the price I can't complain. Down seems well distributed and I wish it would get real cold here in DC so I could test it.

No wonder the medium sold out 24hrs after this post hit this site. I was debating whether or not to pull the trigger and BAM they're all gone. And now my indecision keeps haunting me every time someone posts how much they love their new jacket. haa. this is some kind of poetic justice.

Very nice jacket. I went camping last night with a low of 48 (i'm in Florida). It was too hot to wear very long. I mostly used it to cover over my head as I slept. This will come in handy for my week long AT trip in April.

I got an XL, but I usually wear L. I'll have to say it's a little big and I wish I had gone with the L. So based on my experience, these don't run small.

Just got my Fugu jacket (medium Tall) and it fits perfectly. I originally purchased the large but decided to exchange it for the medium and I'm so pleased with the fit. These jackets (in my opinion) run a little large. At the very least they are very generous with sizing. I also got the medium tall in green so all worked out well for me (they were out but then some became available). I must say for just over a $100.00 this jacket is super nice. All the baffles in my jacket were properly filled. Nice job on his reasonable buy.

Thanks to all that wrote about their experience, it really helped.

I just received my new jacket….wow!..

very light, great fit, and warm.

I am glad I noticed this thread, since I believe it is a great value for the money.

Now, to give it a good testing….

I'm looking to buy a MEDIUM TALL, if anyone is selling —

Black or Red, preferred

Keep checking the listed site every day (or better yet call them as some others here have lucked out that way). For some reason their stock changes a lot. Plain mediums had been out for some time and then magically reappeared a couple weeks later so I just got mine. They were gone again when I looked 2 days later.

I called to check, and apparently what's still in stock is all there will be, according to the woman who answered.

So it got cold this week. Wore the jacket to work a few days to test it. With only a light cotton tshirt underneath at temsp in the high 20's I was very warm. This jacket is quitetoasty as reported by others. The sleeves feel a tad short on me.

Received my Fugu Jacket today – I think it might be one of the very last large talls they had. It was an exchange for a previously ordered large size that was just a little too short in the arms. I can confirm what other posters have said about the customer service at Recreational Outlet (awesome), and also what other posters are saying about the quality and warmth of this jacket (double-awesome). The red color is OK, and very similar to the red Montbell Thermawrap UL jacket I have. Overall I am a happy guy.

Of course, Seattle just completed its warmest January on record, and February is following the same pattern, so it may be a while before I can put this jacket to the test – but I have a hunch it will pass just about any cold weather test with flying colors.

Dave what is your standard shirt sleeve length? I'm interested in this jacket also but have delayed because not knowing the sleeve length

Tad –

I'm 6-2 and about 180 pounds. I normally take a 36/36.5 inch sleeve length, and while the 35 inch sleeves on my large Montbell Thermawrap UL jacket are fine, on the Fugu the large size 35 inch sleeves were a bit too short. The 36.5 inch sleeves on the large tall are perfect (the torso is a little roomy, but its an acceptable compromise).

I took a walk a few nights ago in the snow in this jacket. Temps in the high teens, light wind… I was wearing a cotton tee shirt and a midweight zip-wool sweater. A half-mile into the walk, I had to upzip the jacket all the way and took off my hat, I was so hot. This thing is ridiculous. I think with a sweater and any light activity, you'd be fine down to zero in this thing without any problem.

Doesn't do as well in high winds without a shell — I was kept comfortable in the same t-shirt/sweater/fugu combo at ~30* temps with 30-50mph winds. If you're going to be in high winds, a windbreaker over this would probably get you down into the sub-zero range. Leaps and bounds the warmest jacket I've ever worn, especially for the weight.

I live in MN where it can get plenty cold at times. However, I'm wondering whether I need a jacket this warm. Anyone else had actual experience wearing it yet, and at what temperatures?

Quick responses will help me decide whether to get one tommorrow or not. Thanks.

I wear a cotton tee under fugu comfortably in high 20s; and with a wool sweater around 10f.

Hi guys,
My roommate is leaving for a 1-year assignment in Afghanistan in a few months, and is working on packing now for the cold winters there, and wants to find a good down jacket — my Medium Tall fits him perfectly.

If I can't find a one for him, I'll give him mine, but I thought if there was anyone here who had an extra or if it didn't fit quite right, this would be a perfect opportunity to pass it along.

Color needs to be a green or black — bright colors are discouraged on base because it can make the wearer a target.

Anyway, if anyone has one they want to sell, please let me know.
Thanks so much,
Tim

Finally took the plunge and ordered one of the remaining large Fugu jackets from Recreation Outlet. Based on everything I've read so far, I have high hopes for this jacket! I'm a bit concerned about girth — with a 42-43" chest and a 33" waist, anything that fits in the shoulders tends to be pretty baggy amidships — but at the price I can alter it if need be. I just hope we don't run out of cold weather before I can put it to the test.
