Questioning “dry base layers for sleeping”.

For me…. it is a matter of finding a balance. If carrying a 10-12 ounces of extra clothing means a significant improvement in comfort for long stretches of time (or safety margin) then I'll carry it. Ten or twelve ounces is not enough for me to notice on my back.

Sometimes the UL mantra is counter-productive. It is great to chase lower pack weight but the ultimate goal is more enjoyment and safety in the outdoors. If that means carrying more weight so be it.

For me one of the basics of survival in the wilderness is having something dry you can change into should you get a soaking in conditions where hypothermia is a risk. The fact this can double as sleep clothes is an added benefit.
