I was wondering, if anyone here has used ZPacks old rain jacket the one with Event and CF the white one and did it keep you dry?

Ive had one for about 3 or 4 years and have never used it. I’ve taken it on trips it just never rained. I use to on the jmt, but for some reason I remember reading that it wet out really fast.

Should I just use my frogg togg jacket?

Thank you!

Yes I  had one of the original ones that Joe modified for me. (This modification practice that is NOT possible at ZPacks today.)

Used EXTENSIVELY it in light and heavy rain/snow without any issues. Retired the CF ANORAK style jacket due my one time of drying it in a dryer it shrunk ~½ to 3/4 in size….

WARNING!…NEVER DRY CF MATERIAL IN A HOME OR COMMERCIAL DRYER AS IT WILL SHRINK THE MATERIAL

Yes, I still have one from 2013.  It got used for a 4 day stretch in the Sierras earlier this month.  Use was during thunderstorms lasting 2-3 hours each, with some relatively high down pours.  There were no issues with wetness.  It does need a wash and new DWR, but this is not required due to the age of the jacket, rather it’s due to the jackets getting dirty over time and being worn around a camp fire.  But at least now I know not to put the jackets into the dryer, thanks Ken L. for this info, I was not aware of this.

That version was my favorite rain jacket of all time and selling it was my biggest regret in gear swapping. If you have an XL and would like to sell yours, send me a messsge.

Thomas – looks like HMG might sell you one for a paltry sum :)

Yes. Wore mine across Jockeys Ridge at the height of Hurricane Sandy (with skiing goggles and taped pants cuffs. Totally dry. Again in Patagonia; Torres Del Paine on 2 days with hurricane gusts, closed trails and people blown off their feet (in other words average Outer Banks bad weather) Really love that jacket when the weather gets foul.
