It’s always fun to see this kind of testing, and it reminds me of the DAC “Windlab” , which had done a lot of tests of Sierra Designs tents in particular. However, I do recall a prototype tent at the time (I think it ended up becoming TNF Spectrum 23), which withstood speeds of over 130mph!

Either way, I’m also always curious about the altitude at which these tests are taking place, since the pressure exerted on an object is quite different at sea level than it is at higher altitudes.

(For example, a 50mph wind on Mt. Everest is equivalent to about a 30mph wind at sea level.)

Time to find the popcorn…. I suppose…

Around 6,600′.

That’s about 10 miles from my house.

Around 6,600′.

Air density reduced by about 15% compared to sea level, so the “dynamic pressure” at constant velocity is reduced proportionally (and increases like the square of the velocity of course).

I’m not an engineer, but I read the BPL forums.

I’m going to put this here. As some here know, I’ve had the privilege of meeting Steven. He’s one of us. The real deal.

I watched the video, but didn’t have any audio…  Which model of Hilleberg did he test, and did he say if it was old or new (just wondering if the zips were worn)?
