A backpacking stove’s quite the feat,
It fights off the wind to compete,
With a sturdy windscreen,
It stays quite keen,
And saves all the fuel it can eat.

Time for another contest! The winner can select either the Ocelot STD 2.0 for the Pocket Rocket Deluxe or for the BRS 3000t. To enter the contest, submit a limerick about anything to do with backpacking, you may enter as many times as you wish (but it must be in the form of a limerick). Please keep the entries acceptable to the general public (avoid the usage of the word Nantucket!). Additionally, any Political comments will be immediately disqualified (not the time or place). The winner will be randomly selected from all the entries. The contest will be over on November 15th at 12 midnight, with the winner announced soon after. The Ocelot windscreen will include free shipping Worldwide. To submit your entry, just reply to this post.

About the Ocelot STD 2.0 windscreen: this is a relatively new design release. We have improved fuel efficiency by redesigning the burner plate to block additional wind created by random vortexes coming up from the bottom of the windscreen. In general, we have improved fuel efficiency by about 20%.

Best wishes everyone – Jon

Sure why not

A hiker once paused on a bluff,
Complaining his stove wasn’t tough.
Then Ocelot’s screen
Made his setup so lean—
Now half the fuel’s more than enough!

You guys need to step up you game!  I am running the same contest at Trek-Lite and there have been 19 entires so far.  That, and the limericks are pretty good.

A fastpacker selecting hardware
Considered each item with care
Will you take a windshield
To help you cook in the field?
No it’s thirty more grammes I can’t bear

My oh my

I’ll give it a try

You’re in for a treat

But I’m gonna cheat

And use A.I.

There once was a hiker so bright,
Who swore every ounce wasn’t right.
He’d cut off his tags,
Trim handles from bags,
And camp with a pack feather-light!

Why not.  Practicing my Ai prompting skills, from chatGPT:

A hiker obsessed with his load,
Weighed each gram on the side of the road.
He made a windscreen so light,
It blew off in the night—
But hey, zero ounces!—he crowed.

There once was a hiker so sly,

Used AI to cheat, didn’t try.

The bag was so light,

Challenge Ultra delight,

But ethics were left way up high.

A.I. limericks….This is the bubble we’re betting our future on?

I’m disqualifying myself.   Though I need the wealth.   You know why.                         I used A.I.                           Any gains are only pelf.

The use of AI is prefectly acceptable, time to embrace technology when needed.  And frankly, many of you are more skilled at using AI than actually being able to coin a limerick.  This is the Way.

I tried to coin a limerick

But I couldn’t make it stick

There’s nothing in my head

My thoughts are dead

So I wrote this instead real quick

gemini, write me a limerick about using AI to write a limerick about the Ocelot STD 2.0 Windscreen:

A coder named Stan, bright and keen,

Used AI for a limerick machine.

Of the Ocelot 2.0,

A windshield, “It’s  so

Aerodynamic and perfectly clean!”

In contests of rhyme, I took a fall,

David D’s wit left me standing small.

His limericks did dance,

With a masterful chance,

And I just tagged along, after all.

Flexing chatGPT one more time:

Some poets were mad at the bot,
“That limerick is AI, so it’s rot!”
But the host simply grinned,
“He’ll enjoy that new wind-
screen on trail—so who cares how it’s wrought?”

I have to report

Jon’s a good sport

I’ll tell you why

He let us use A.I.

As a last resort

AI, write a limerick about human limerick writers losing their jobs:

An AI, quite fluent and fast,

Made human lim’ricks a thing of the past.

With rhymes neat and slick,

It composed quite a trick,

And poets cried, “Out on your cast!”
