How is it done? I have a Duplex this year. Axe head on the ground and tip up? What do you use to protect your tent from the tip?

Thanks!

How about making a simple cover to envelope the head of the whippet out of 1000d cordura or another heavy fabric? Covers would allow you to keep the spike (tip) on the ground where you can use it to firmly set the pole where you want it, and it would keep the whippet head out of the dirt.

The pick head of the Whippet is removable.  No fussing needed, just take it off and put the plug that comes with it in the hole.

I got mine in 2015 or 2016 and I don’t see an easy way to remove the head. I’ll try fussing with it some more.

The 2019 mode came back out with removable head heaving a blunt end similar to a trekking pole

The original Whippet had a removable head but that was changed to a fixed head till the 2018/19 range came out.

Hm, so it seems like I have one of the fixed heads. I suspect my answer is going to be to use the Whippet head/axe side down, and find a rubber or other kind of cover for the sharp tip that will fit into my Duplex. Has anybody done this? If so, can you comment on the kind of tip cover you used? I’d rather buy a new whippet than inadvertently damage my expensive DCF tent.

Thanks,

John

What about the rubber tip covers they sell for trekking poles?

I went to my garage to look for something that would be cheap and easy to do.

Came up with a bottle top and a ping pong ball.

Same idea.

Drill a hole in it about the size of your pole tip .

fill about 2/3  with something like silicone ( I used a wood filler because I had one open)

Cover the pole tip with aluminium foil, slide it into the hole but not to touch the end , let it partially dry , then pull the pole out and let the filler dry.

BTW, I covered one tip with the foil, that slides off easily, the other with clear tape. The fill stuck to the tape so I had to twist it off.
