Dale is spot on regarding the retro Thermos glass lined insulated vacuum bottles. A few years ago he sold me a couple of extras he had, a quart one, and a pint. Aside from the nostalgic factor, they do keep liquids hot (or cold) for hours and hours. When on a day snowshoe outing with a couple of friends, I wowed them when I pulled the quart bottle out and poured us each a tall, hot latte. However, later, I did a side-by-side comparison of the ‘heat retention’ of my retro glass bottle and a SS double wall Nisson pint bottle. The Nisson actually kept the hot water warmer over 5-6 hours than did the Thermos. Still, the funk value of the old Thermos is certainly worth something. And you actually can make some music with it by running a metal something-or-other (a tent stake, or the back of a knife blade?) over the outer ribs of the bottle.
I like to keep my coffee warm to hot for just an hour or so, then it’s time to make another cup. I like my double wall Snow Peak 450 mug with the macho but effective lid. For my advice to the OP I would suggest getting a pint SS ‘thermos’ at REI with his dividend.
