I looked a while ago and found it was a direct, online purchase from the manufacturer and shipping costs were ridiculous. So I too am looking for alternatives.
This sounds like the sort of thing REI should have near its cash registers… I bet they’d sell quite a bit of it that way…
It looks like REI sells such a tube as part of its “Gear Aid Seam Grip Field Repair Kit”, but they say they won’t ship internationally. I have a small tube of repair stuff I got with a sleeping pad, so I just left it in the stuff sack. Does it get old after say five years?
I got nowhere with their customer service.
I’ll figure it’s O.K. as long as the seal isn’t broken.
If you google “7g seam grip”, the first hit is an Amazon page saying it is out of stock. The second hit is this thread.
Yeah I got mine in the repair kit from REI along with a couple tenacious tape patches.
Mine is sealed too and it feels a little squishy so I think it hasn’t turned into a solid plug yet. At least that is what I’m hoping…
maybe you could find Aquaseal in that size.
Would SeamGrip or Silnet be preferable to carry in a tiny tube?
Is Seam Grip or Silnet more useful as a field repair item?
Seamgrip is a great textile glue whereas Silnet has a short list of uses.
Walmart sells it as part of a repair kit, cheap

yeah, seamgrip is good for many purposes. Patch air mattress. Patch shoe.
for fabric, silicone fabric requires silnet or silicone diluted in mineral spirits. Most fabric is not siliconized so you want Seamgrip.
8 ounce seam grip for $18 from amazon
that walmart was for 1/4 ounce. Good for field kit.
if you open the tube, it will dry out in about 6 months. If you put it in freezer it will last for several years.
Sho Goo is a similar product, a little thicker
See I was thinking Shoe Goo was more like silicone or Silnet. I would have thought Silnet would be the thing for a trail runner repair in the field. I’ve never used Seam Grip.
Seam Grip (and the very similar Aquaseal) as well as Shoo Grip are urethane based glue.
Available by most large brands, like 3M , (we have it as Tarzan Grip) at different dilutions and slightly different formulas.
Silnet is diluted Silicone.
Two quarter ounce tubes are already an expensive $6.99 plus $5.95 shipping. Ridiculous. The tiny tubes are just enough to take along. The other sizes, not so much.
Thanks for explaining the difference, fellas.
My local outfitter carries 7g tubes of FreeSole which is a urethane adhesive similar to Seam Grip. $2.25
