I have a Fosters can in a titanium cone setup I made 6-9 months ago but haven’t been able to make an alcohol stove for it that doesn’t overheat yet. What does everyone else use? I know esbit would be an easy solution but th fuel is so stinking expensive, I’d REALLY like to get a DA option. Anyone use a modified starlyte from Dan Y @ Zelph?

I like Esbit so much I never got around to messing with alcohol much but Dan’s modified Starlyte seems to be to default goto. He supplied a “modified modified Starlyte” with the Toaks 550 CC setup that I have. It’s got an even smaller hole than the modfified which helps with thermal feedback in a tiny cone, iirc.

The distance between stove top and can bottom is critical to performance, so dropping a random alcohol stove into your home-made setup might not work so well. Others on BPL have tested various heights. Search the forums for guidance, and be prepared to experiment and modify.

The Starlyte stove works very well with Foster pots and conical windscreens.

I have the Keg-F setup from Trail Designs, so Fosters can with their matched cone. I use a regular Starlyte, and I use a little DIY stove stand made of hardware cloth to raise the stove closer to the bottom of the Fosters, and it works very well.  But as stated earlier it has to do with the distance to the bottom of the pot. For example, in my case the stove stand brings the top of the stove to the same height as the 12-10 that’s built for the system. What is that distance in your setup?

Thx for the tip Rex. I will make sure to test heights. Not that you would know, and I guess I probably should have stated as such, but I’ve done a LOT of stove building and testing on a number of different setups. Here’s a small sample of the stoves I’ve built and been playing with for various applications.

Thx Dan & JR for the Starlyte recommendations. As you can see from the pics, a number of my stoves are based on the basic Starlyte design… though I obviously haven’t gotten everything right since mine all overheat still. I may breakdown and just buy a modified here eventually. But didn’t want to do that until I knew it would def work in this small of a cone setup.
