I have not taken water/camp shoes backpacking in years.  I am doing the JMT in July with my family.  I am taking water shoes this year.  I bought 3 pairs of these http://www.fitkicks.us/fitkicks-mens-active-lifestyle-footwear.  I just received them in the mail a few days ago.  The weight is as follows men small 7.0 ounces, men xl 8.7 and woman large 6.6.  Has anyone used these in water? They are comfortable around the house.

Thanks

Eric

Is that the weight per pair?

i carried Vivo Ultra Pures on the JMT last summer which weigh about the same. I’ll probably not carry them next time. It’s a half-pound for 220 miles and I only wore them crossing Evolution and Bear Creek. Next time I’ll probably pull out my insoles and go sockless for those two crossings and then let the shoes dry for ten minutes. Then maybe another sock change 20 minutes later. I wear meshy trail runners…

Have a great time. It’s a fantastic hike.

Yes per pair.

I am carrying them because I plan on spending more time swimming.  I have cut the bottom on my foot in the past. I did not carry water shoes on my solo JMT or TRT hike.

Thanks

Eric

Sorry this is kind of related to this thread…. but I just can’t help it… I recently brought these as water / around camp shoes and am really, really pleased with them. Light, easy on/off, comfy and and claimed to be Adidas’s fastest drying shoe ever… plus kind of stylie!

According to Campsaver specs, 7 oz each for men’s small.

I don’t know why they do that with shoes. Safe to say most people will be buying a pair. :^)

I swim in my trail runners. No extra shoes needed. Which is fine since finding size 15s is ridiculous.

I happened to spot some FitKicks in a store near the Sand Dunes in CO, a couple of weeks ago. I wasn’t optimistic, but they actually did great for the river crossing and then deep sand. I was impressed how secure they felt in the river and how little sand got into them.

The toe-guard helped keep them on my feet during uphill/downhill and provided a little protection against rocks. The footbed did soak up a little bit of water, but I was glad to have padding and insulation for the concrete floor in the house afterward.

I haven’t weighed them, but I’ve read they’re around 7oz. Not sure if I’ll bring them for camp shoes, but I’d use them again for water shoes.
