I’m looking forward to receive my UL phone Zanco Tiny T1 in May:

It weighs not even 0,5 oz and I thought it would be a great back up phone in case my normal phone ceases to work. It is meant for 2G network though.

Does  anybody here know anything about those networks? Can I use this Tiny T1 in locations with 3G or 4G network?

Of course I know that in the mountains I mostly don’t have any coverage at all. My question is: suppose there as some coverage  (on a pass or near a highway) will a 2G phone be if any use?

I don’t get it.  How can you even see the Pokemon?

It will mostly be useless, though how useless depends on where you’re hiking. KPN, Vodaphone and T-Mobile have very little 2G coverage in the Netherlands. The big cellular companies in the US said they were turning off all of their 2G towers early last year.

Here’s an interesting website that lets you see what kind of coverage any country has by each cellular company. It defaults to the US map, but you can choose any country you like and it will show coverage, and even allow you to choose specific cities for their coverage.

Thanks for the information about the Netherlands, Doug. I’m afraid I wasn’t being specific enough
It was meant for using in the US and as backup for sectionhiking the PCT in Washington. And I’ve also seen the coverage maps in this part of the US.

I tend to understand now the given information about networks and the Tiny T1 turns out to be a rather useless gadget for me, considering my purpose ti use ut as a backup.

Thanks for making me this understood.
