Report / Notes
We Section Hiked the Trans Catalina Trail in CA from Two Harbors to Avalon: December 19th & 20th. Note that boats do not go to Two Harbors on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Arrived on 12/18 and splurged and stayed at the Banning House, Wine & cheese hour in the afternoon and breakfast available in the morning. Hiked to Little Habor, there was a Santa Anna wind blowing so the Little Harbor was dead calm. I had planned to do some stove testing there; however, it was a bust. The Franklin Fire in Malibu was raging and you could see the smoke lingering across the ocean. Luckily our house was not in the evacuation zone. On the you can still see some of the impact of the heavy rains from last year (they did stop issuing permits last year due to the trail conditions).  We saw Buffalo, an Island Fox and a Bald Eagle flew within 20 feet of us near Avalon.

Did you get any gum? I’ve never been there. It sort of reminds me of Avila.

What struck me about hiking on Catalina is how often the trail follows a fence line straight up the fall line instead of building a switchback to make the hike less strenuous.
