I have a different style tick key – I can’t remember the name and it’s in my FA kit, but it looks like a small, very thin, v-stake with a slot cut in the pointed end that narrows to nothing. The instructions tell you to be patient and that it can take up to a minute or more to remove a single tick. The idea is that you get the tick in the slot and then slowly increase the pressure until the tick releases. I think the logic is that they will release rather than lose a body part. When I pulled mine off they were all crawling around my ziploc…I didn’t check for all body parts ;)
