Thermarest Adapter for Air Bag Pump

Tired of filling my Xlite pad with humid air, some research showed some clever MYOG devices for use with an air bag pump. Downside was too many parts and tools needed to make an adapter. So I came up with my own simple, cheap solution using common items to adapt a roll top pump bag to fit the T-rest stick valve. The roll top bags such as the S2S Air Stream (and similar Nemo) are far more efficient than the S2S Jet Stream. Using the Air Stream pump bag I can inflate a regular size Neoair Xlite with 3 inflation cycles (bags of air), takes about a minute.

My MYOG solution was to get a piece of plastic tubing from a beer supply store 5/8″ inside diameter  size that slips over a T-rest valve. On the other end I glued the blue nozzle from a Smart Water .75 liter bottle (it’s pressed in, knocks right out). As you can see below it all fits together. The Air Stream is basically a dry bag which holds my sleeping gear and down bag, sits in the bottom of the pack and gets well compressed by everything else in the pack. Total cost: $2.00 for the adapter parts. The red tape just makes it easier to see and find.

Can’t you just ream the bag fitting to be able to just shove the valve right in there?

Yes, you sure can do that. But that would exclude using the pump with S2S, REI and Nemo pads. So, the XLite gets the adapter.
